Goldrush (band)
Goldrush were a rock band from Oxfordshire, England. Their music has been compared to earlier artists Nick Drake and The Band, as well as music from The Flaming Lips and Grandaddy. The band centres on brothers Robin (vocals, guitar) and Joe (keyboards, guitar, vocals) Bennett. The other members are Garo Nahoulakian (lead guitar), Nick "Growler" Fowler (bass) and Graham Roby (drums). Original bassist Jef Clayton left the band in 2003. History Goldrush were formed by Robin Bennett, Joe Bennett and Jef Clayton in the late 1990s under the name Whispering Bob, after the DJ Bob Harris (radio presenter), "Whispering" Bob Harris, who frontman Robin once served while working in the local SPAR shop. Truck Festival
Truck Festival is an annual independent music festival in Oxfordshire, England. Truck Festival started in 1998, founded by the Bennett family (including the brothers Robin and Joe of the band Goldrush). The Bennett family decided that mainstream festivals such as Glastonbury had become too commercial and predictable. Truck Festival is held in July at Hill Farm in Steventon, Oxfordshire, which lies between Abingdon, Didcot and Wantage. The festival also gave birth to the Truck Records label in 1999. The main stage was originally constructed from three large flatbed trucks, giving rise to a common misperception is that this is where the name of the festival comes from. However, in 2007 Robin Bennett wrote on the official Truck website: "Contrary to popular belief, the name Truck actually came from a compilation CD I picked up, 'Ten Trucking Greats', the soundtrack of the movie ''Convoy''." Falling Out Into The Night
''Falling Out into the Night'' is an EP by Mark Gardener and Goldrush, released in November 2003 on Truck Records. The EP followed on the heels of a number of live performances that featured the members of Goldrush as Mark Gardener's backing band. The EP includes the Gardener-penned song "Snow in Mexico", on which he is backed by Goldrush, and the Goldrush song "Out of Reach". The third track on the EP is a cover of the song "Dreams Burn Down", featuring Gardener and Goldrush together equally. "Dreams Burn Down" had originally been released by Gardener's earlier band Ride in 1990. The first track on the EP, "Snow in Mexico", was included on Mark Gardener's debut solo album, ''These Beautiful Ghosts''. During an interview for the Bucks Music Group website, Gardener stated that "Snow in Mexico" was inspired by a newspaper headline and is essentially about "how people can blow hot and cold, be one way one minute and then completely different, the next." Steventon, Oxfordshire
Steventon () is a village and civil parish in Oxfordshire, England, about south of Abingdon and a similar distance west of Didcot. It lies within the boundaries of the historic county of Berkshire. The 2011 Census recorded the parish population as 1,485. ''Woodstock'' is a 1970 American documentary film of the watershed counterculture Woodstock Festival which took place in August 1969 near Bethel, New York. The film was directed by Michael Wadleigh in his directional debut. Seven editors are credited, including Thelma Schoonmaker, Martin Scorsese, and Wadleigh. ''Woodstock'' was a great commercial and critical success. It received the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature. Schoonmaker was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Film Editing, a rare distinction for a documentary. Dan Wallin and L. A. Johnson were nominated for the Academy Award for Best Sound. The film was screened at the 1970 Cannes Film Festival, but was not entered into the main competition. The 1970 theatrical release of the film ran 185 minutes. Danny And The Champions Of The World
Danny and the Champions of the World are a heartland rock and soul band. Formed in London during the summer of 2007 by Danny George Wilson, the band have since released seven studio albums and two live albums. The band's name is an allusion to the novel '' Danny, the Champion of the World'' by Roald Dahl. Formation The band was formed following the dissolution of Grand Drive, in which Danny performed with his brother Julian Wilson. They recorded originally as an impromptu demo session at a farm within the grounds of the Truck Festival. Mark Gardener
Mark Stephen Gardener (born 6 December 1969) is an English rock musician, best known for being one of two singer-guitarists for the shoegaze band Ride. Career Ride Gardener formed Ride with Andy Bell (guitarist), whom he met at Cheney School in Oxford, and Laurence Colbert (drummer) and Steve Queralt (bass guitarist), whom he met doing Foundation Studies in Art and Design at Banbury in 1988. While still at Banbury the band produced a tape demo including the tracks "Chelsea Girl" and "Drive Blind". In February 1989 "Ride" were asked to stand in for a cancelled student union gig at Oxford Polytechnic that brought them to the attention of Alan McGee. After Ride had supported the Soup Dragons in 1989, McGee signed them to Creation Records. With Ride, Gardener released three EPs between January and September 1990, entitled ''Ride'', ''Play'' and ''Fall''.
