Goldie Taylor (born July 18, 1968) is an American author and opinion writer based in Atlanta, Georgia. She is an editor-at-large of ''The Daily Beast''. Early life Taylor was born in University City, Missouri, and raised in East St. Louis, Illinois. Her father was murdered on November 5, 1973, when she was 5, leaving her mother Mary to raise her and her siblings alone. She attended public schools in the metro St. Louis area before moving to Atlanta and graduating from Cross Keys High School in 1986. Taylor was an active-duty US marine trained in public affairs broadcasting at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. She received an honorable discharge on medical grounds. University City (colloquially, U. City) is an inner-ring suburb of the city of St. Louis in St. Louis County, in the U.S. state of Missouri. The population was measured at 35,065 by the 2020 census. The Penn State child sex abuse scandal concerned allegations and subsequent convictions of child sexual abuse committed by Jerry Sandusky, an assistant coach for the Penn State Nittany Lions football team, over a period of at least fifteen years. The scandal began to emerge publicly in March 2011 and broke in early November 2011 when Sandusky was indicted on 52 counts of child molestation, stemming from incidents that occurred between 1994 and 2009. Sandusky was ultimately convicted on 45 counts of child sexual abuse on June 22, 2012, and was sentenced to a minimum of 30 years and a maximum of 60 years in prison.
