Golden Robot Records is an Australian independent record label that has released, among others, the albums '' Mother of the Sun'' by Jefferson Starship, ''Silver & Black'' by Leadfinger, ''Into the Night'' and ''Tomorrow Never Comes'' by The New Strange, '' Ala Mai'' by Shepherds Reign, and'' Vanilla Zeppelin'' by Vanilla Fudge. Background The label was described by ''Heavy Magazine'' as "one of the world's fastest growing independent record labels". It is overseen by Mark Alexander-Erber. According to Mark Alexander-Erber, the name came about when he looked at a small porcelain statue of a gold robot on a speaker and decided that it was the perfect name for the label. The very first release for the label was ''The Orbitor'' by the group Moon. Mother Of The Sun
''Mother of the Sun'' is the eleventh studio album by American rock band Jefferson Starship. It was released on August 22, 2020, through Golden Robot Records. Production This is the first album from the band to not include any contributions from founder Paul Kantner, who died in 2016. This is also the first studio album from the band in 36 years to include former bassist Pete Sears, who plays on three tracks on the album. After the recording of their last studio album, '' Jefferson's Tree of Liberty'' (2008), drummer Prairie Prince departed from the group and was replaced by 1982–84 drummer Donny Baldwin to perform on the tour. Baldwin, who had also performed with the offshoot band Starship from 1984 to 1989, has remained with Jefferson Starship since, and this is his first album with the group since 1984's '' Nuclear Furniture''. Jefferson Starship is an American rock band from San Francisco, California, formed in 1974 by a group of musicians including former members of Jefferson Airplane. Between 1974 and 1984, they released eight RIAA certification, gold or Music recording sales certification, platinum-selling studio albums, and one gold-selling compilation. The album ''Red Octopus'' went double-platinum, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200 chart in 1975. The band went through several major changes in personnel and genres through the years while retaining the Jefferson Starship name. The band name was retired in 1984, but it was picked up again in 1992 by a revival of the group led by Paul Kantner, which continued after his death in 2016. Leadfinger (pronounced "Led-finger") is an Australian guitar rock band formed in Wollongong, New South Wales, in 2006 by Glasgow-born singer and guitarist Stewart "Leadfinger" Cunningham. The band has released six albums to date, with the most recent released in February 2022 through Golden Robot Records. Background Leadfinger founder Stewart Cunningham has been a prominent figure in the Australian underground music scene for over 20 years. He began his career as a guitarist with the pre-grunge Wollongong band The Proton Energy Pills. Alex Grossi (born November 22, 1976) is an American guitarist, best known as the guitarist of heavy metal band Quiet Riot and the hard rock supergroup Hookers & Blow with Dizzy Reed. Biography Early life and career Alexander Nicholas Grossi was born Alexander Nicholas Lesbines on November 22, 1976, and grew up in South Windsor, Connecticut. At age 17 he got a job teaching guitar lessons at Riccardo's Music Center in East Hartford. While living in Connecticut, he was lead guitarist for the band Wake Up Jack. Upon finishing high school, he moved to Boston where he joined up with Angry Salad. The band was soon signed to Atlantic Records and toured extensively until 2001, when the AOL/Time-Warner merger cost them their deal. ''Ala Mai'' is the second studio album by New Zealand heavy metal group Shepherds Reign. It was released on Golden Robot Records in 2023 in both CD and vinyl LP format. The lyrics are sung in both English and Samoan. Background Having previously released a self-titled album in 2018 without label backing, ''Ala Mai'' was released via Golden Robot Records in August 2023. The meaning of Ala Mai is to wake up. Shepherds Reign along with Dick Move were in top tier list of finalist for the Taite Music Prize nomination in 2024. The album won awards in the SunPix Best Pacific Language category and the Best Pacific Music Album category. Shepherds Reign
Shepherds Reign are a New Zealand-based heavy metal band. They have released two albums, a self-titled one in 2018 and ''Ala Mai'' in 2023. Background and influences Two members of Shepherds Reign have a background in classical music. Lead singer Filiva'a James had begun classical music training, playing piano from the age of five. As a teenager, Oliver Leupolu had also learnt classical piano. Filiva'a James' interest in metal music goes back to when he at the age of five saw the Guns N' Roses music video for the song "November Rain". According to ''NZ Musician'', the group started out a trio in 2013 which was made up of guitarist Oliver Leupolu, drummer Shaymen Rameka and keyboardist / vocalist Filiva'a James. Vanilla Fudge
Vanilla Fudge is an American rock band known predominantly for their slow extended heavy rock arrangements of contemporary hit songs, such as their hit cover of the Supremes' " You Keep Me Hangin' On". The band's original line–up was vocalist/organist Mark Stein, bassist/vocalist Tim Bogert, guitarist/vocalist Vince Martell, and drummer/vocalist Carmine Appice. They recorded five albums during the years 1967–69, before disbanding in 1970. The band has toured as recently as 2022 with three of the four original members: Stein, Martell, and Appice, with Pete Bremy on bass. Bogert retired in 2010 and died in 2021. The band has been cited as "one of the few American links between psychedelia and what soon became heavy metal" and as a proto-prog band. Filter is an American rock music, rock band formed in 1993 in Cleveland, Ohio, by singer Richard Patrick, along with guitarist and programmer Brian Liesegang. The band was formed when Patrick desired to start his own band after leaving Nine Inch Nails as their touring guitarist. Their debut album, ''Short Bus (album), Short Bus'' (1995) received RIAA certification, platinum certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), supported by the single "Hey Man Nice Shot." After the album, the band would go through the first of many lineup changes, leaving Patrick as the only consistent member across all releases. Richard Michael Patrick (born May 10, 1968) is an American singer, musician and songwriter. He is the frontman and only continuous member of the rock band Filter. He is also a founding member of the supergroups Army of Anyone and The Damning Well, and has served as a touring guitarist for Nine Inch Nails.
