Golden Reel Awards 2023
The 71st Golden Reel Awards, presented by the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE), honored the best in sound editing for film, television, video games, and student films in 2023. The ceremony was held on March 3, 2024, at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre in Los Angeles. The nominations were announced on January 16, 2024. The film ''Oppenheimer'' and the television series ''The Last of Us'' led the nominations with three each. Supervising sound editor and sound designer Dane A. Davis received the Career Achievement Award. Additionally, Michael Dinner was honored with the Filmmaker Award. Motion Picture Sound Editors
Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE) is an American professional society of motion picture sound editors founded in 1953. The society's goals are to educate others about and increase the recognition of the sound and music editors, show the artistic merit of the soundtracks, and improve the professional relationship of its members. The society is not to be confused with an industry union, such as the I.A.T.S.E. The current president is David Barber. The names of active members of the MPSE will generally appear in film credits with the post-nominal letters "MPSE". History The current Golden Reel Award design was introduced on March 31, 1984, at the award ceremonies for the year 1983 held at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel Grand Ballroom, Beverly Hills, California. Michael Dinner (born May 20, 1953) is an American director, producer, and screenwriter for television. Biography Prior to his TV career, Dinner was a singer-songwriter and recording artist for Fantasy Records, where he released two albums, ''The Great Pretender'' (1974) and ''Tom Thumb the Dreamer'' (1976), along with four singles. In 2017, he wrote and directed an episode of the Channel 4/Amazon Video series ''Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams''. He also served as an executive producer. He graduated from Harvard College.
