''Gold'' is a 1932 American Pre-Code Western film directed by Otto Brower. An early sound B western, the film starred Jack Hoxie in the second of his six sound westerns, featuring Hooper Atchley as the villain Kramer. The film also marked the last screen appearance of silent movie actress Alice Day. Otto Brower (December 2, 1890 – January 25, 1946) was an American film director. He directed more than 40 films between 1928 and 1946. He was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and died in Hollywood, California, from a myocardial infarction, heart attack. Matthew Betz
Matthew Betz (September 13, 1881 – January 26, 1938) was an American film actor. Betz was born in St. Louis, Missouri, in 1881. Following an extended career in the U.S. Cavalry, Betz spent eight years in Vaudeville. His first stage play was ''Ellis Island''. He appeared in more than 120 films between 1914 and 1937. He died in 1938. John Lowell (actor)
John Lowell (April 11, 1875 – September 19, 1937) was an American film actor who starred in several productions during the silent era. He is sometimes credited as John Lowell Russell. Biography Lowell was born in Pleasant Valley, Iowa. He was married to the screenwriter Lillian Case Russell. The actress Evangeline Russell and the cinematographer John L. Russell were their children. Lowell began his film career in 1919, appearing in two shorts. He was a producer for Lowell Film Productions, whose work included '' Red Love'' (1925). On September 19, 1937, Lowell died in Los Angeles, California. Bob Kortman
Robert F. Kortman (December 24, 1887 – March 13, 1967) was an American film actor mostly associated with westerns, though he also appeared in a number of Laurel and Hardy comedies. He appeared in more than 260 films between 1914 and 1952. 1936- appeared in Trail of the lonesome pine. Biography The son of a rancher, Kortman was born in Brackettville, Texas, in 1887. He spent six years in the U.S. cavalry. Director Tom Ince cast Kortman as a villain when he began working in films in 1911, and he went on to become the "favored on-screen opponent" for William S. Hart with regard to their film fights. After he left acting, Kortman was president of a cooperative water company in Arrowhead Springs, California, where he lived. Kortman was married to Gonda Durand, a Mack Sennett bathing beauty. He died in Long Beach, California from cancer. Tom London (born Leonard T. Clapman; August 24, 1889 – December 5, 1963) was an American actor who played frequently in B-Westerns. According to ''The Guinness Book of Movie Records'', London is credited with appearing in the most films in the history of Hollywood, according to the 2001 book ''Film Facts'', which says that the performer who played in the most films was "Tom London, who made his first of over 2,000 appearances in '' The Great Train Robbery, 1903''. He used his birth name in films until 1924. Life and career Born in Louisville, Kentucky, London got his start in movies as a props man in Chicago, Illinois. His debut was in 1915 in the Western ''Lone Larry'', performing under his own name.
