Gol Stave Church
Gol Stave Church () is a 12th century stave church originally from Gol, Norway, Gol in the traditional region of Hallingdal in Buskerud county, Norway. The reconstructed church is now a museum and is now located in the Norwegian Museum of Cultural History at Bygdøy in Oslo, Norway. Description The church has been dendrochronology, dendrochronologically dated to from 1157 to 1216. When the city built a new church around 1880, it was decided to demolish the old stave church. It was saved from destruction by the Society for the Preservation of Ancient Norwegian Monuments (''Fortidsminneforeningen''), which bought the materials in order to re-erect the church elsewhere. The remains of the original medieval construction were documented before transport. Original murals and medieval artifacts survived. Scandinavian Heritage Park is a park located in the Upper Brooklyn neighborhood of Minot, North Dakota. Scandinavian Heritage Park features remembrances and replicas from each of the Scandinavian countries: Norway, Sweden and Denmark, as well as Finland and Iceland. Nore Stave Church
Nore Stave Church () is a stave church located at Nore, Norway, Nore in Nore og Uvdal kommune in Buskerud, Buskerud county, Norway. Description dendrochronology, Dendrochronological dating of wood samples indicate that Nore stave church was built after 1167. The church was built with galleries, a chancel and cross naves an architectural style that was unique in Europe during the Middle Ages. This style has come to be known as Nummedals-type. Decorations are from different periods. Nore is decorated with tendril and animal carvings. Animal characters featured include dragons and lions. The church has a central mast that was originally the support for a tower, mostly likely containing church bells. The walls and ceiling of the interior are decorated with murals, among them scenes from the Bible presented as riddles. Veggli Stave Church
Veggli is a village in the municipality of Rollag, in the county of Buskerud, Norway. Veggli is located about 66 kilometers north of Kongsberg. It is located in the traditional district and valley of Numedal. It is situated on the Numedalslågen River, near the mouth of Nørdsteåas estuary. Its population in 2005 was 292. Veggli train station was on the Numedal Line. The line ran from Kongsberg to Rødberg in Nore og Uvdal. The line was officially opened in 1927. Passenger traffic on the track was closed in 1988. West from Veggli, the road goes over Vegglifjell where Veggli Lodge and Veggli Skisenter are located. Further the road leads to the villages of Austbygdi and Tessungdalen in Tinn. Flesberg Stave Church () is a stave church located at Flesberg in Buskerud, Buskerud county, Norway. History Written sources mention the church the first time in 1359, but it was probably built in the latter half of the 1100s or the first half of the 1200s. The church was originally a single nave church (''type B'') with four free-standing internal posts bearing a raised central roof, surrounded by an ambulatory or aisles on all four sides. It had a narrower chancel, also with a raised central roof, and a semicircular apse. It was surrounded by a gallery loosely connected to the plank walls. In 1735, the chancel and apse, as well as the east wall of the nave, were removed. The nave was extended eastwards and two transepts were added, making a cruciform plan. The additions were built in horizontal log construction with notched corners. Portal planks are decorated with carved vines and animal ornamentation. Torpo Stave Church
Torpo Stave Church () is a stave church located in Torpo, a small village in Ål municipality in Buskerud county, Norway. Torpo is located along Norwegian National Road 7, the Norwegian national road which runs between Oslo and Bergen. History Built in 1192, the Torpo Stave Church is the oldest building within the valley and traditional district of Hallingdal. The church was dedicated to Saint Margareta. The stave church was purchased by the municipality in 1875. It was initially planned to expand it with an annex to the east, but in 1879 it was decided instead to modernize the interior with new ceiling and gallery. Valdres () is a traditional district in central, southern Norway, situated between the districts of Gudbrandsdalen and Hallingdal. The region of Valdres consists of the six municipalities of Nord-Aurdal, Sør-Aurdal, Øystre Slidre, Vestre Slidre, Vang and Etnedal. Hegge Stave Church () is a 13th-century stave church in Norway. It is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Øystre Slidre Municipality in Innlandet county. It is located in the village of Hegge. It is the church for the Hegge parish which is part of the Valdres prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Hamar. The brown, wooden church was built in a long church design around the year 1216 using plans drawn up by an unknown architect. The church seats about 150 people.
