Goddess (band)
Goddess was a Dutch Eurodance act by producer’s Rob and Ferdi Bolland, fronted by singer Elvira Valentine. They are best known for their 1992 hit single "Sexual". History Valentine (born in Amsterdam on January 28, 1962) started her career as a backing vocalist for artists such as Falco and Joe Cocker John Robert "Joe" Cocker (20 May 1944 – 22 December 2014) was an English singer known for his gritty, bluesy voice and dynamic stage performances that featured expressive body movements. Most of his best known singles were recordings of son ...; she was also part of the duos Say When! (with Ingrid "B.B. Queen" Simons) and Club Risqué (with Daryl White). Goddess released ''The Sexual Album'' in 1992, and while it did not chart, the single "Sexual" peaked at #74 on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100, staying on the charts for ten weeks. Euro-Dance (sometimes referred to as Euro-NRG, Euro-electronica or Euro) is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in the late 1980s in Europe. It combines many elements of hip hop, techno, Hi-NRG, house music, and Euro-Disco. This genre of music is heavily influenced by the use of rich vocals, sometimes with rapped verses. Bolland & Bolland are two Dutch music producers and brothers, Rob Bolland (born 17 April 1955) and Ferdi Bolland (born on 5 August 1956). They were born in Port Elizabeth in South Africa. Career They produced and wrote for such artists as Falco (including his Number 1 hit "Rock Me Amadeus"), Samantha Fox (" Love House"), and wrote the Status Quo hit " In the Army Now" – which they released under their own name in 1981 and which was also recorded by Gerard Joling. As musicians in their own right, they released their first album "Florida" in 1972. Their hit singles career started as early as 1972, with "Summer of '71" in a folk, a cappella-style following the success of Simon and Garfunkel and their Dutch equivalents Greenfield and Cook. When, in 1976, their success started to wane, they turned towards a more electronic sound, an early example of which can be heard in "Spaceman", a 1978 hit in the Netherlands. Johann "Hans" Hölzel (; 19 February 1957 – 6 February 1998), better known by his stage name Falco, was an Austrian singer and musician. Falco had several international hits including " Der Kommissar" (1981), "Rock Me Amadeus", " Vienna Calling", "Jeanny", " The Sound of Musik", "Coming Home (Jeanny Part II, One Year Later)", and posthumously "Out of the Dark". "Rock Me Amadeus" reached No. 1 on the ''Billboard'' charts in 1986, making him the only artist in history whose principal language was German, to score a ''vocal'' number-one hit in the United States. John Robert "Joe" Cocker (20 May 1944 – 22 December 2014) was an English singer known for his gritty, bluesy voice and dynamic stage performances that featured expressive body movements. Most of his best known singles were recordings of songs written by other song writers, though he composed a number of songs for most of his albums as well, often in conjunction with songwriting partner Chris Stainton. His first album featured a recording of the Beatles' " With a Little Help from My Friends", which brought him to near-instant stardom. The ''Billboard'' Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by ''Billboard'' magazine. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States. The weekly tracking period for sales was initially Monday to Sunday when Nielsen started tracking sales in 1991, but was changed to Friday to Thursday in July 2015. This tracking period also applies to compiling online streaming data.
