Goat (album)
''Goat'' is the second studio album by the Jesus Lizard, released in 1991. The album was produced by Steve Albini. Its cover art, by bassist David Wm. Sims, at first glance resembles a flame, but is actually a topless woman with a close-up image of nails projected onto her body. The rear of the album, and several panels of the enclosed CD booklet include similar pictures of the same naked woman, with different images projected onto her body. Critical reception In 2003, ''Goat'' was ranked as the 38th best album of the 1990s by the online magazine ''Pitchfork''. The Jesus Lizard is an American Rock music, rock band formed in 1987 in Austin, Texas by vocalist David Yow, guitarist Duane Denison and bassist David Wm. Sims. They relocated to Chicago, Illinois, in 1989, where they found kindred spirits in recording engineer Steve Albini and Touch and Go Records. With the addition of drummer Mac McNeilly, they began performing live and became "a leading noise rock band in the American independent underground music, underground…[who] turned out a series of independent records filled with scathing, disembowelling, guitar-driven pseudo-industrial rock, industrial noise." ''Select'' was a United Kingdom music magazine of the 1990s. It was known for covering the indie rock and Britpop genres, but featured a wide array of music. In 2003, ''The Guardian'' called ''Select'' "the magazine that not only coined the word Britpop, but soon came to define it." Carey Folk McNeilly Jr (born March 12, 1960), better known as Mac McNeilly, is an American musician, best known as the drummer for The Jesus Lizard. He also played drums in bands P.W. Long's Reelfoot, 86, Mouse, Come, Nadja, and played bass in Phantom 309. He is known for his very powerful, solid and hard-hitting style. Duane Denison (born January 21, 1959) is an American guitarist best known for work with the punk rock band The Jesus Lizard. He is also a founding member of super-group Tomahawk. Biography Denison began his musical career by studying classical guitar at Eastern Michigan University. David Lambeth Yow (; born August 2, 1960) is an American musician and actor born in Las Vegas Valley, Las Vegas, Nevada and best known as the vocalist for the noise rock bands Scratch Acid and the Jesus Lizard. Yow's debut solo album, ''Tonight You Look Like a Spider'', was released in June 2013 on Joyful Noise Records. Biography In 1982, Yow formed the Austin, Texas–based punk rock, punk/noise rock group Scratch Acid. The group's initial lineup featured Steve Anderson (vocals), David Wm.
