Goan People
Goans (Konkani in the Roman script, Romi Konkani: , ) is the demonym used to describe the people native to Goa, India, formerly part of Portuguese India (''Estado Português da Índia''). They form an ethno-linguistic group resulting from the assimilation of Indo-Aryan languages, Indo-Aryan, Dravidian languages, Dravidian, Luso-Indian, Indo-Portuguese, Proto-Australoid, Austro-Asiatic ethnic and/or linguistic ancestries. They speak different dialects of the Konkani language, collectively known as Goan Konkani. "Goanese", although sometimes used, is an incorrect term for Goans. Language Goans are generally multilingual, but mainly speak the Konkani language, a Prakrit based language belonging to the Southern Indo-Aryan languages, Southern group of Indo-Aryan Languages. Vimala Devi
Teresa da Piedade de Baptista Almeida (born ), known by her pen name Vimala Devi, is a Portuguese writer, poet, and translator. Born into an elite Goan caste of Roman Catholic Brahmins in Portuguese Goa, she settled in Lisbon, Portugal in 1957, later working as a translator, during which she adopted her pen name. António Fortunato De Figueiredo
Maestro António Fortunato de Figueiredo ComSE (20 August 1903 – 1981) was a Goan conductor and violinist. He was India's first conductor of western classical music. Early life and education António Fortunato de Figueiredo was born in Nacordá-Loutolim, in Goa (Portuguese India), the son of Goan Catholic parents Gabriel de Figueiredo and Ermelinda Parras e Figueiredo. Frederika Menezes
Frederika Menezes (born 1979 or 1980) is an Indian author, poet, and artist best known for her book ''Unforgotten'', a love story for young adults published in 2014. Her poem ''"The Different Normals"'' has yet to be included in the English textbook of the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE). José Camillo Lisboa
José Camillo Lisboa (5 March 1823 – 1 May 1897) was a Portuguese physician and botanist. He was among the first Portuguese-Goan physicians and graduated from the inaugural class of the Grant Medical College in Bombay, British India. After graduating in 1851, he worked as a doctor at the Jamsetjee Jeejeebhoy Hospital in Bombay. Luso-Indian
Luso-Indians, or Portuguese-Indians, are people who have mixed Indian and Portuguese ancestry; the term also refers to people of Portuguese descent born or living or originating in former Portuguese Indian colonies, the most important of which were Goa and Damaon of the Konkan region, along the Western coast of the present-day Republic of India.
