Goa Today
''Goa Today'' was a monthly magazine published from Panaji, Goa, India, since 1966, featuring news, literature and local issues. ''Goa Today'' is considered the "grand-daddy" of all monthly magazines in Goa. It was founded by Francisco Damasceno do Rosario Dantas and former joint-editor of '' The Navhind Times'', Lambert Mascarenhas. As of 2021, it has "paused" its publication. History The main problem facing the magazine in the 2010s is fostering enough advertising to meet publication costs. During Mascarenhas' and Dantas' ownership, Norman Dantas was first Associate editor and then as Executive editor for the magazine. When ''Goa Today'' was sold to Salgaocar Mining Industries, Mascarenhas was followed as editor by Vaman Sardesai, who left in 1987 to become India's ambassador to Angola. Panaji
Panaji (; , , )also known as Panjim, is the capital of the Indian state of Goa and the headquarters of North Goa district. Previously, it was the territorial capital of the former Portuguese India. It lies on the banks of the Mandovi river estuary in the Tiswadi sub-district (''taluka''). With a population of 114,759 in the metropolitan area, Panaji is Goa's largest urban agglomeration, ahead of Margao and Mormugao. Panaji has terraced hills, concrete buildings with balconies and red-tiled roofs, churches, and a riverside promenade. There are avenues lined with gulmohar, acacia and other trees. The Navhind Times
''The Navhind Times'' is an English language newspaper in Goa. Founded in 1963 and based in Panaji, the capital of Goa, it is the largest selling newspaper, amongst the three locally published English newspapers in the state. The other two being'' O Heraldo (The Herald)'' and ''Gomantak Times'' successively. According to the newspaper, it has a 52% of overall share market of advertisement space in Goa. History ''The Navhind Times'' was established on 18 February 1963, after India conquered the former Portuguese colony, it was Goa's first English newspaper, and was launched by the Dempo Brothers, including the elder Vasantarao Dempo. They were involved in mining business. The publication hired two editors Lambert Mascarenhas and T.V. Parvate. Lambert Mascarenhas
Emidio Francisco Lamberto "Lambert" Mascarenhas (17 September 1914 – 27 June 2021) was an Indian journalist, independence activist, and writer. Early and personal life Mascarenhas was born in Colva, Portuguese India, but his early education took place in Poona and later at the St. Xavier's College, Bombay. He was married to Dr. Jolly Mascarenhas. He had four children. He had taken a vow that he would marry only after the freedom of Goa from the Portuguese rule. Hence, he married on 29 December 1961, exactly ten days after the annexation of Goa by India on 19 December 1961. His family was from the Goan Catholic community. Vaman Sardesai
Vaman Balkrishna Naique Prataprao Sardesai (5 May 1923 – 6 May 1994) was an Indian poet, freedom fighter and diplomat from Goa. Along with Libia Lobo Sardesai, whom he later married, he ran an underground radio station, Voice of Freedom, that transmitted across Portuguese Goa from 1955 to 1961, advocating the cause of the Goan independence movement. Following the Liberation of Goa, he became the second editor of ''Goa Today'' magazine, and went on to become an IAS officer, serving as the Indian Ambassador to Angola. In 1992, he was awarded the Padma Shri. He has also been the co-convenor of INTACH. Manohar Shetty
Manohar Shetty (born 1953) is an Indian poet, writer, and literary editor based in Goa, India. He is considered as one of the prominent Indian poets writing in the English language. He has been a Senior Fellow with the Sahitya Akademi, the Indian academy of arts and letters, and his work is found in several anthologies, including ''The Oxford India Anthology of Twelve Modern Indian Poets'' edited by Arvind Krishna Mehrotra and anthologies edited by Eunice de Souza, Vilas Sarang and Jeet Thayil. Salgaocar Football Club (formerly Salgaocar Sporting Club) is an Indian professional football club based in Vasco, Goa. Being one of the country's most successful clubs, it is currently operating youth teams. Until the disfunction of its senior team in June 2023, Salgaocar competed in the Goa Professional League.
