Gmina Zawady
__NOTOC__ Gmina Zawady is a rural gmina (administrative district) in Białystok County, Podlaskie Voivodeship, in north-eastern Poland. Its seat is the village of Zawady, which lies approximately west of the regional capital Białystok. The gmina covers an area of , and as of 2006 its population is 3,014. The gmina is the proposed location of a new airport to be built near Bialystok. Gmina
The gmina (Polish: , plural ''gminy'' , from German ''Gemeinde'' meaning ''commune'') is the principal unit of the administrative division of Poland, similar to a municipality. , there were 2,477 gminas throughout the country, encompassing over 43,000 villages. 940 gminas include cities and towns, with 302 among them constituting an independent urban gmina ( pl, gmina miejska) consisting solely of a standalone town or one of the 107 cities, the latter governed by a city mayor (''prezydent miasta''). The gmina has been the basic unit of territorial division in Poland since 1974, when it replaced the smaller gromada (cluster). Stare Krzewo
Stare Krzewo is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Zawady, within Białystok County, Podlaskie Voivodeship, in north-eastern Poland. It lies approximately south-west of Zawady and west of the regional capital Białystok. History Stare Krzewo, Nowe Krzewo and Krzewo-Plebanki were recognized as separate villages already in the 15th century. During World War II, the village was occupied by the Soviet Union from 1939 to 1941, and by Nazi Germany from 1941 to 1944. In 1941, the Germans established a forced labour camp in the village.
