Gmina Czyże
__NOTOC__ Gmina Czyże () is a rural gmina (administrative district) in Hajnówka County, Podlaskie Voivodeship, in north-eastern Poland. Its seat is the village of Czyże, which lies approximately north-west of Hajnówka and south-east of the regional capital Białystok. The gmina covers an area of , and as of 2006 its total population is 2,528. It is one of five Polish/Belarusian bilingual Gmina in Podlaskie Voivodeship regulated by the ''Act of 6 January 2005 on National and Ethnic Minorities and on the Regional Languages'', which permits certain gminas with significant linguistic minorities to introduce a second, auxiliary language to be used in official contexts alongside Polish.Dz. Gmina
The gmina (Polish: , plural ''gminy'' ) is the basic unit of the administrative division of Poland, similar to a municipality. , there were 2,479 gminy throughout the country, encompassing over 43,000 villages. 940 gminy include cities and towns, with 322 among them constituting an independent urban gmina () consisting solely of a standalone town or one of the 107 cities, the latter governed by a city mayor (''prezydent miasta''). The gmina has been the basic unit of territorial division in Poland since 1974, when it replaced the smaller gromada (cluster). Three or more gminy make up a higher level unit called a powiat, except for those holding the status of a city with powiat rights. Each and every powiat has the seat in a city or town, in the latter case either an urban gmina or a part of an urban-rural one. Leniewo
Leniewo is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Czyże, within Hajnówka County, Podlaskie Voivodeship, in north-eastern Poland. It lies approximately north of Czyże, north-west of Hajnówka, and south-east of the regional capital Białystok. History The village was founded around 1540 on the farm of Żuk Leniewicz, who was the first to settle in the area. Since at least the 17th century, there have been manor buildings in the village, belonging at the end of the century to the sword-bearer Wacław na Jeruzalach Jaruzelski of the Ślepowron coat of arms, and at the end of the 18th century to Wojciech Szepietowski of the Ślepowron coat of arms. After 1800, a brick chapel with a roof made of tiles was built near the manor. This place was referred to as Leniewo Sady. In a church document from 1775 it was recorded that Leniewo had 109 people living in 28 houses. Lady, Podlaskie Voivodeship
Lady is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Czyże, within Hajnówka County, Podlaskie Voivodeship, in north-eastern Poland. It lies approximately north-east of Czyże, north-west of Hajnówka, and south-east of the regional capital Białystok. History The village is located on the site of a manor farm founded in 1559. The manor in Lady was described in 1576: In the manor there were over 200 hectares of land and an undescribed manor, next to which a water mill was located on the Łoknica River. The manor in Lady over time took on special significance, becoming the seat of the Bielsk forestry. Its task was to protect the remains of the Bielsk Forest. As this forest, apart from small remnants, practically ceased to exist, so with time the forestry was abolished as well.
