Gloppen
Gloppen is a List of municipalities of Norway, municipality in the Counties of Norway, county of Vestland, Norway. It is located in the Districts of Norway, traditional district of Nordfjord. Gloppen is generally subdivided into three areas: Hyen in the west, Gloppen in the center, and Breim in the east. Each of the areas have their own main service centres. Sandane, the administrative centre of the municipality, is the largest with about 2,500 inhabitants. Sandane, Vereide, and Sørstranda, Sogn og Fjordane, Sørstranda are centered on the Gloppefjorden in Gloppen in the central part of the municipality. The villages of Byrkjelo, Re, Sogn og Fjordane, Re, Kandal, Norway, Kandal, and Egge, Sogn og Fjordane, Egge are centered on the lake Breimsvatnet in the Breim area in the east. Breim
Breim is a Former municipalities of Norway, former municipality in the old Sogn og Fjordane Counties of Norway, county, Norway. It is part of the Districts of Norway, traditional district of Nordfjord in the eastern part of the present-day Gloppen Municipality which is now in Vestland county. The municipality existed from 1886 until 1964. The administrative center was the village of Reed, Sogn og Fjordane, Reed (sometimes called ''Re''). Breim municipality was located to the east of Gloppen, south of Stryn and the Utvik mountains, west of the Jostedalsbreen glacier, and north of Jølster. The municipality was centered on the lake Breimsvatn. Many of the inhabitants lived on the shores of the lake or in the large river valley extending east from the lake. Gloppefjorden
Gloppefjorden or Gloppenfjorden is a fjord in Gloppen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The long fjord flows from the village of Sandane in the southeast to its mouth at the Nordfjorden in the northwest. The river Gloppeelva is the primary inflow on the fjord. The river comes from the large lake Breimsvatnet. The wide fjord has a lot of settlements along the inner parts of the fjord, especially on the eastern side of the fjord. The most notable village areas are Sandane, Vereide, and Sørstranda. The European route E39 highway runs along the eastern side of the fjord. Breimsvatnet
Breimsvatn or Breimsvatnet is a lake in the municipalities of Gloppen and Sunnfjord in Vestland county, Norway. At , it is the largest lake in Gloppen (followed by the lake Emhjellevatnet). The European route E39 highway runs along the north end of the lake, connecting the two nearby areas of Sandane and Byrkjelo. On the shores of the long lake lie several villages including Re and Kandal. The lake flows into the Gloppenelva river which flows into the Gloppefjorden, an arm of the Nordfjorden. Historically, the area surrounding the lake was part of the municipality of Breim, which existed from 1886 until 1964. Sandane Airport, Anda
Sandane Airport (; ) is a regional airport serving the village of Sandane in Vestland county, Norway. It perpendicularly straddles the Anda peninsula in Gloppen Municipality between the Nordfjorden (Vestland), Nordfjorden and Gloppefjorden. The airport has an asphalt runway measuring and aligned 08/26. Services are provided by Widerøe on public service obligation with the Ministry of Transport and Communications (Norway), Ministry of Transport and Communications. The airport is owned and operated by the state-owned Avinor and served 37,272 passengers in 2013. The airport was opened on 1 July 1975 as the only public airport serving Nordfjord, four years after the other regional airports in Sogn og Fjordane county. Hyen
Straume or Hyen is a village in Gloppen Municipality in Vestland, Norway. The village lies near the southern end of the Hyefjorden near the mouths of the rivers Åelva and Hopelva. Straume is located about northeast of the lake Eimhjellevatnet, where the villages of Eimhjellen and Solheim are located. Hyen Church is located in Straume, serving the whole western part of Gloppen municipality. There are around 600 people living in the Hyen area. Solheim is a small village in Gloppen Municipality in Vestland county, Norway. The village lies on the western shore of the large lake Eimhjellevatnet, about southwest of the village of Straume in the Hyen area.
