Global Framework Agreement
A Global Framework Agreement or GFA, previously called International Framework Agreement or IFA is a non-binding agreement between global union federations and multinational companies, which at minimum ensures workers within a company's world-wide operations can exercise fundamental labour rights in accordance with ILO core labour standards on freedom of association and collective bargaining. The first GFA was signed in 1988 between the International Union of Foodworkers (IUF) and French-multinational Danone. As of September 2018, more than 300 agreements between trade unions and multinational companies have been signed. Global Union Federation
A global union federation (GUF) is an international List of federations of trade unions, federation of national trade unions organizing in specific industry sectors or occupational groups. Historically, such federations in the social democratic tradition described as ''international trade secretariats'' (ITS),. while those in the Christian democratic tradition described themselves as ''international trade federations''. Equivalent sectoral bodies linked to the World Federation of Trade Unions described themselves as ''trade union internationals''. Many unions are members of one or more global union federations, relevant to the sectors where they have their members. Individual unions may also be affiliated to a national trade union centre, which in turn can be affiliated to the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) or the WFTU. Labor rights or workers' rights are both legal rights and human rights relating to labor relations between workers and employers. These rights are codified in national and international labor and employment law. In general, these rights influence working conditions in the relations of employment. One of the most prominent is the right to freedom of association, otherwise known as the right to organize. Workers organized in trade unions exercise the right to collective bargaining to improve working conditions. The Right to Organise and Collective Bargaining Convention (1949No 98is an International Labour Organization Convention. It is one of eight ILO fundamental conventions. Its counterpart on the general principle of freedom of association is the Freedom of Association and Protection of the Right to Organise Convention (1949) No 87. Content The Preamble of Convention 98 notes its adoption on 1 July 1949. After this the Convention covers, first, the rights of union members to organise independently, without interference by employers in article 1 to 3. Second, articles 4 to 6 require the positive creation of rights to collective bargaining, and that each member state's law promotes it. The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions (Eurofound) is an agency of the European Union which focuses on managing research, gathering information, and communicating its findings.
