Glen View Club
Glen View Club is a private country club located in Golf, Illinois, a suburb just north of Chicago. History Founded by a group of Chicago businessmen on March 29, 1897, it was originally the Glen View Golf and Polo Club; its name was shortened a few years later to the Glen View Club. The club was situated so as to be close to a commuter railroad from Chicago, and the village of Golf got its name from the simple sign – "Golf" – that directed riders from the makeshift station to the course. In 1899, Glen View Club was one of the founding clubs of the Western Golf Association and hosted the inaugural Western Open and Western Amateur tournaments that same year. Golf, Illinois
Golf is a village in Cook County, Illinois, United States, incorporated in 1928. As of the 2020 census, the village had a population of 514. The community is primarily residential, and has a dedicated police department, post office, and Metra train stop. History The village of Golf occupies approximately half a square mile in Cook County, Illinois, roughly northwest of the Loop. The land which is now the village was originally inhabited by Chippewa, Ottawa, and Potawatomi peoples. It was designated for their settlement in the August 1825 First Treaty of Prairie du Chien. Around 1830, John Dewes purchased for 50 cents an acre from Antoine Ouilmette and became the first non-Indian settler in what is now Golf. Dewes first built a log cabin, then in 1834 he built a brick house - a mansion at the time. Both structures remain on the grounds of what is now the Glen View Club. East Lake Golf Club
East Lake Golf Club is a private golf club 5 miles east of downtown Atlanta, Georgia. Established in 1904, it is the oldest golf course in the city. East Lake was the home course of golfer Bobby Jones (golfer), Bobby Jones and much of its clubhouse serves as a tribute to his accomplishments. Since 2004 PGA Tour, 2004, East Lake has been the permanent home of the Tour Championship, the culminating event of the PGA Tour Playoffs for the FedEx Cup. Shinnecock Hills Golf Club is a links-style golf club located in an unincorporated area of the Town of Southampton on Long Island, New York, situated between the Peconic Bay and the Atlantic Ocean. Founded in 1891, it is one of the oldest golf clubs in the United States and was among the five charter clubs that formed the United States Golf Association (USGA) in 1894. Shinnecock Hills also built what is often cited as the first golf clubhouse in the U.S., designed by McKim, Mead & White and opened in 1892. From its inception, the club notably admitted women members—one of the first American golf clubs to do so. Inverness Club is a private golf club in Toledo, Ohio. Opened in 1903, the club has hosted four U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, two NCAA Men's Championships, and the Solheim Cup. Inverness is the only club to have hosted the U.S. Open, U.S. Amateur, U.S. Senior Open, and U.S. Junior Amateur. From 1935 to 1954, it also hosted the Inverness Invitational Four-Ball. Oak Hill Country Club is a country club in the northeastern United States, located in the Town of Pittsford, New York, a suburb southeast of Rochester. Founded in 1901, and best known for its East golf course, the club has hosted multiple major championships. The club facilities are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History The club has a rich history of golf, starting out in 1901 as only 9 holes on on the banks of the Genesee River in Rochester. The clubhouse was no more than a converted farm house. At the time, golf was a relatively new sport in America, and as popularity of the sport grew, so did the country club. By 1921, Oak Hill had doubled in size and had a new clubhouse, so when the University of Rochester proposed a land swap in 1921, it was a tough decision for members. Seminole Golf Club is a private golf club in the southeastern United States, located in Juno Beach, Florida. Designed by Donald Ross in 1929, it is consistently ranked as one of the top 100 courses in the nation. History Investment banker Edward Francis Hutton began development of the private, Seminole Golf Club in 1929 on land previously owned by Harry Kelsey. The site chosen for the course featured a number of sand dune ridges that were carefully brought into play with some fairways directed towards elevated green sites while others drop down from sandy peaks to flatter terrain.
