The Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus (; ) is the upper house of the National Assembly of Belarus, parliament of Belarus. History It was established after the Constitution of Belarus was amended in 1996 following a 1996 Belarusian referendum, referendum, replacing the Supreme Council of Belarus. Composition Qualifications To be elected to the Council, an individual must be at least 30 years of age, a citizen of the republic and of no other country, have residency in an oblast or the Minsk City for at least 5 years, and have no criminal record. Slavianski Bazaar In Vitebsk
The International Festival of Arts "Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk", also known as Slavic Bazaar, is an annual festival held in Vitebsk, Belarus under the auspices of the Belarusian Government since 1992. Its main program is devoted to Slavic music. The main participants are artists from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, countries of the former Yugoslavia, Poland, and Bulgaria with guests from many other countries, both Slavic and non-Slavic. A vocal competition is taking place within the framework of the festival. There is also a children's music competition. A special award "Through Art – to Peace and Understanding" is awarded at the festival; the names of the award winners are immortalized on the "Square of Stars" in Vitebsk. The Belarusian Telegraph Agency or BelTA (, , БелТА) is the state-owned national news agency of the Republic of Belarus. It operates in Russian, Belarusian, English, German, Spanish, Polish and Chinese languages. Since 2018, the director of BELTA is Irina Akulovich. History The agency was founded on December 23, 1918. During the Soviet times BelTA cooperated with the Telegraph Agency of the Soviet Union (TASS), although it was legally independent of it. After the USSR ceased to exist in 1991, BelTA has been the national news agency of Belarus. It transmits over a hundred daily reports, and provides information to other news agencies of Commonwealth of Independent States members about the activities of Belarusian officials and organizations in and out of the country.
