Gladys Wanga
Gladys Atieno Nyasuna Wanga (born 7 March 1981) is a Kenyan politician who is the current governor of Homa Bay County. She is the first female governor from the western region of the country and one of the seven female governors elected during the 2022 Kenyan general election. She served as the county woman representative of Homa Bay County from 2013 to 2022. Background and education Gladys grew up in a political family following closely the footsteps of her late father John Nyasuna, who at one point was a renowned councillor in Kisumu County, which was then known as Nyanza Province. She obtained her bachelor's degree in Health Management from the Kenyatta University in 2004 and later on graduated from Kenyatta University in 2012 with a master's degree in health management. Homa Bay County
Homa Bay County is a county in the former Nyanza Province of Kenya. Its capital and largest town is Homa Bay. The county has a population of 1,131,950 (2019 census) and an area of 3,154.7 km2. Lake Victoria is a major source of livelihood for Homa Bay County. It has 40 wards, each represented by an MCA to the assembly in Homa Bay town as its headquarters. Western Kenya
After the 2013 general election, and the coming into effect of the new constitution, provinces became defunct and the country was now divided into 47 counties. Each county has its own government and therefore there is no central regional capital. Western Province became the Western region, comprising four counties: Kakamega, Bungoma, Vihiga, and Busia. 2022 Kenyan General Election
General elections are scheduled to be held in Kenya on 9 August 2022. Voters will elect the President, members of the National Assembly and Senate, county governors and members of the 47 county assemblies. Background The Constitution of Kenya requires that a general election of members of parliament to be held on the second Tuesday in August in every fifth year, which means that the next general election is scheduled for 9 August 2022. If Kenya is at war, the election can be delayed if a resolution is passed in each House of Parliament by at least two-thirds of all the members of the House. Kisumu County
Kisumu County is one of 47 counties in the Republic of Kenya. Its borders follow those of the original Kisumu District, one of the former administrative districts of the former Nyanza Province in western Kenya. Its headquarters is Kisumu City which is the third largest city in Kenya after the capital Nairobi and the coastal city of Mombasa. Nyanza Province
Nyanza Province (; sw, Mkoa wa Nyanza) was one of Kenya's eight administrative provinces before the formation of the 47 counties under the 2010 constitution. Six counties were organised in the area of the former province. The region is located in the southwest part of Kenya around Lake Victoria, includes part of the eastern edge of Lake Victoria, and is inhabited predominantly by the Luo people and Kisii people. Cyprian Achilaus Otieno Awiti (born December 14, 1952, in Homa Bay County) is a Kenyan politician who served as the first governor of Homa Bay County from 2013 to 2022. He is a member of Orange Democratic Movement and a member of Coalition for Reforms and Democracy. Early life and education Awiti was born in Rachuonyo Sub County, Homa Bay County in Kenya. Awiti attended his primary school at Mawego Primary School in Rachuonyo. He then attended Mawego Secondary school. He then studied Electrical engineering at Mombasa Technical Training Institute. Jomo Kenyatta (22 August 1978) was a Kenyan anti- colonial activist and politician who governed Kenya as its Prime Minister from 1963 to 1964 and then as its first President from 1964 to his death in 1978.
