Gladys Ganda
Gladys Ganda is a Malawian politician who was appointed as a Presidential advisor. She is a member of parliament for Nsanje Lalanje in Malawi and the Democratic Progressive Party. She was elected to chair parliament's Budget and Finance Committee in 2020. Life Ganda attended the Chancellor College of the University of Malawi which is in Zomba and graduated with a BSc. She later went to Cape Town in South Africa to study for her MBA. She had a career inside the Bank of Malawi that lasted twenty years. Ganda was an unsuccessful parliamentary candidate in 2017. She stood again and in 2019 she became the member of parliament for the Nsanje Lalanje constituency. Until then she was deputy CEO of NOCMA (the National Oil Company of Malawi.) Nsanje District
Nsanje is a district in the Southern Region of Malawi. The capital is Nsanje. The district covers an area of and has a population of 194,924. In addition to the city of Nsanje, it has the towns of Bangula, Marka, Tengani, and Fatima. Marka is the southernmost city in Malawi and on the edge of the dry border with Mozambique ( Vila Nova de Fronteira). Location Nsanje is the southernmost district in Malawi and lies in the Lower Shire River Valley. It straddles the Shire River in the north (the river forms most of Nsanje's eastern boundary) and is surrounded by Mozambique. Democratic Progressive Party (Malawi)
The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) is a political party in Malawi. The party was formed in February 2005 by the then Malawian President Bingu wa Mutharika after a dispute with his party the United Democratic Front (UDF), which was led by him in a 2004 general elections and chaired by his predecessor, Bakili Muluzi. History The DPP party is an offshoot of the United Democratic Front. The UDF was formed by Bingu wa Mutharika and Bakili Muluzi and came to power in 1994 under Muluzi. After Muluzi's two terms were over, Mutharika succeeded him as head of the party and nation. However, Muluzi remained involved in running the party; therefore Mutharika formed his own party, the Democratic Progressive Party, in early 2005. Many UDF members defected to the new DPP party. Zomba, Malawi
Zomba is a city in southern Malawi, in the Shire Highlands. It is the former capital city of Malawi. It was the capital of first British Central Africa and then Nyasaland Protectorate before the establishment of Malawi in 1964. Sosten Gwengwe
Sosten Gwengwe (born 20 May 1977) is a Malawian politician who served as the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs of the Republic of Malawi from January 30, 2022 until his replacement in October 2023. He previously served as Minister of Trade from June 2020 until his appointment as Finance and Economic Affairs Minister. Gwengwe was first elected to Parliament in 2009 as a member of the Malawi Congress Party, but announced on August 31, 2011 that he was switching to the Democratic Progressive Party because the MCP "had nothing to offer to the country" and the DPP under President Bingu wa Mutharika had a "clear vision of developing the country". The Malawi Parliamentary Women's Caucus is a cross party group of women who are members of Malawi's National Assembly. It was formed in 1996 when there were nine women members of parliament who wanted to work together across parties whenever there was an issue that was related to women. History In 1994, Malawi had a new constitution and democracy. The constitution was claimed to be one of the most "gender-sensitive" in the world. In 1996, there were nine women among the 177 members of Malawi's parliament. The idea of a women's caucus was put forward and the nine politicians put aside their party allegiances to work together.
