Gladys Atieno Nyasuna Wanga
Gladys Atieno Nyasuna Wanga (born 7 March 1981) is a Kenyan politician who is the current Governor of Homa Bay County. She is the first female Governor from the Western Region of the Country and one of the seven female governors elected during the 2022 Kenyan General Election. She previously served as the County Woman Representative of Homa Bay County from 2013 to 2022. She is married the non-Executive Chairperson of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA), George Wanga. Background and education Gladys grew up in a political family following closely the footsteps of her late father John Nyasuna, who at one point was a renowned councilor in Kisumu County, which was then known as Nyanza Province. Homa Bay County is a county in the former Nyanza Province of Kenya. Its capital and largest town is Homa Bay. The county has a population of 1,131,950 (2019 census) and an area of 3,154.7 km2. Lake Victoria is a major source of livelihood for Homa Bay County. Kisumu County
Kisumu County is one of 47 counties in the Republic of Kenya. Its borders follow those of the original Kisumu District, one of the former districts of Kenya, administrative districts of the former Nyanza Province in western Kenya. Its headquarters is Kisumu City which is the third largest city in Kenya after the capital Nairobi and the coastal city of Mombasa. Kenyatta University Alumni
Jomo Kenyatta (22 August 1978) was a Kenyan anti-colonial activist and politician who governed Kenya as its Prime Minister from 1963 to 1964 and then as its first President from 1964 to his death in 1978. He played a significant role in the transformation of Kenya from a colony of the British Empire into an independent republic. Ideologically an African nationalist and a conservative, he led the Kenya African National Union (KANU) party from 1961 until his death. Nyanza Province
Nyanza Province (; ) was one of Kenya's eight administrative provinces before the formation of the 47 counties under the 2010 constitution. Six counties were organised in the area of the former province. The region is located in the southwestern part of Kenya around Lake Victoria. It includes part of the eastern edge of the lake and is inhabited predominantly by the Luo people and Kisii people. There are also Bantu-speaking tribes, such as the Kuria, and some Luhya, living in the province. The province derives its name from ''Nyanza,'' a Bantu word which means a large mass of water. Cyprian Achilaus Otieno Awiti (born December 14, 1952, in Homa Bay County) is a Kenyan politician who served as the first governor of Homa Bay County from 2013 to 2022. He is a member of Orange Democratic Movement and a member of Coalition for Reforms and Democracy. Early life and education Awiti was born in Rachuonyo Sub County, Homa Bay County in Kenya. Awiti attended his primary school at Mawego Primary School in Rachuonyo. He then attended Mawego Secondary school. He then studied Electrical engineering at Mombasa Technical Training Institute. In 1984 he enrolled into the University of Manchester studying Management Administration and graduated in 1987 with a Master of Education.
