Giuseppe Prezzolini
Giuseppe Prezzolini (27 January 1882 – 14 July 1982) was an Italian literary critic, journalist, editor and writer. He later became an American citizen. Biography Prezzolini was born in Perugia in January 1882, to Tuscan parents from Siena, Luigi and Emilia Pianigiani. In 1903 he founded together with Giovanni Papini the literary journal ''Leonardo''. In 1908 he founded '' La Voce'', a cultural and literary journal that grew to become very influential. In 1929, Prezzolini moved to the United States, where he taught at Columbia University in New York City,Jonah Goldberg, ''Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left from Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning'', New York: Doubleday, 2007, p. 28 and served as Head of that University's Casa Italiana. He was the author of many books in both Italian and English, including primary essays of philosophy, history and literary criticism. He died in Lugano on 16 July 1982. Benedetto Croce
Benedetto Croce, ( , ; 25 February 1866 – 20 November 1952) was an Italian idealist philosopher, historian, and politician who wrote on numerous topics, including philosophy, history, historiography, and aesthetics. A Cultural liberalism, political liberal in most regards, he formulated a distinction between liberalism (as support for civil liberties) and "liberism" (as support for ''laissez-faire'' economics and capitalism). Croce had considerable influence on other Italian intellectuals, from Marxists to Italian fascists, such as Antonio Gramsci and Giovanni Gentile, respectively. He had a long career in the Italian Parliament, joining the Senate of the Kingdom of Italy in 1910, serving through Fascism and the Second World War before being elected to the Constituent Assembly of Italy, Constituent Assembly as a Liberal. Italian fascism (), also called classical fascism and Fascism, is the original fascist ideology, which Giovanni Gentile and Benito Mussolini developed in Italy. The ideology of Italian fascism is associated with a series of political parties led by Mussolini: the National Fascist Party (PNF), which governed the Kingdom of Italy from 1922 until 1943, and the Republican Fascist Party (PFR), which governed the Italian Social Republic from 1943 to 1945. The term "the people" refers to the public or common mass of people of a polity. As such it is a concept of human rights law, international law as well as constitutional law, particularly used for claims of popular sovereignty. Antonio Baldini (10 October 1889 – 6 November 1962) was an Italian journalist, literary critic and writer. Institutions renamed in celebration and commemoration of Baldini include, slightly unusually, a large public library in Rome, the "Biblioteca statale Antonio Baldini". Biography Provenance and early years Antonio Baldini was born in Rome. Count Gabriele Baldini (1860–1916), his father, was a minor aristocrat, originally from Santarcangelo in Romagna, and employed for many years by the Ministry for Public Works, notably in connection with the administration of contracts for railway development. His mother, born Sofia Alkaique (1861-1929), came from Livorno (Tuscany), possibly having been born into an immigrant family.
