Gitanjali Aiyar
Gitanjali Aiyar (née Ambegaonkar, 29 January 19477 June 2023) was India's female news presenter on Doordarshan. She collapsed and died after a morning walk in New Delhi due to brain haemorrhage. She was suffering from Parkinson's disease and was 76. Early life and education Aiyar attended Loreto College in Kolkata. She also studied for a diploma at the National School of Drama. She featured in many advertisements and also acted in Khandaan, a popular tele-serial on DD in the mid-1980s. She had a daughter, journalist Pallavi Aiyar and a son, Shekhar Aiyar from her ex-husband Swaminathan Aiyar Swaminathan S. Anklesaria Aiyar (born 12 October 1938) is an Indian economist, journalist, and columnist. Doordarshan Journalists
Doordarshan (), abbreviated as DD, is India's state-owned public television broadcaster. Established by the Government of India on 15 September 1959, it is owned by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and constitutes one of Prasar Bharati's two divisions. Doordarshan, one of India's largest broadcasting organisations in studio and transmitter infrastructure, delivers television, radio, online, and mobile services across metropolitan and regional India, and internationally. It also broadcasts via digital terrestrial transmitters. Pallavi Aiyar is an Indian journalist and author currently based in Spain. Previously, she was the Indonesia correspondent for ''The Hindu'', Europe correspondent for the ''Business Standard'' and China bureau chief for ''The Hindu''. Biography Aiyar is the daughter of Indian journalist Swaminathan Aiyar from his newsreader ex-wife Gitanjali Aiyar (née Ambegaonkar). She obtained a B.A in philosophy from St. Stephen's College, Delhi University, an M.A in modern history from St Edmund Hall, Oxford, and an MSc in global media and communications from the London School of Economics. Khandaan (TV Series)
''Khandaan'' is a television series broadcast on Doordarshan in 1985. It was meant to follow the life and times of the Premchand family, an affluent business family, through several generations. It aspired to be the first long-running soap opera on Indian television. It drew a substantial viewership and was a success, but state-run Doordarshan would not endorse a never-ending soap opera. It therefore ended after showing certain interesting episodes in the lives of the joint family consisting of the elderly couple, their children, daughters-in-law and grandchildren. Mohan Bhandari, Jayant Kriplani, Dr. Shriram Lagoo, Girish Karnad, Shernaz Patel, Tinu Anand and Uma Banerjee among others were the other actors.
