Gisella Loeffler
Gisella Loeffler (1902–1977) was an Austro-Hungarian–American painter, illustrator and textile artist in a distinctive folk style. She began her career in St Louis, Missouri, before moving to the Taos art colony, New Mexico. Although her style was very different from those of other Taos artists, she was popular with them as well as with the public. Among her best known works are murals she painted in an Albuquerque hospital as part of the 1930s Federal Art Project. Early life Gisella Loeffler was born near Vienna in Austria (then Austro-Hungary) ca 1902, and as a young child travelled with family to the United States, where they lived in Missouri. Loeffler trained in traditional painting at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, but was inspired by her childhood memories to paint in a folk style. Biography Gisella Giovenco was born in 1946 in Ferrara: her father, Onofrio Giovenco (1909-2001), was a Sicilian doctor from Alcamo, while her mother, Afra Mariani, was originary from Ferrara; she has been living at Bogliasco (Genova) since 1948; she attended the Liceo Artistico Nicolò Barabino in Genoa and had the painters Bassano and Alberto Nobile, and the sculptor Valdieri Pestelli as teachers. Gisella Neu (April 25, 1908 – December 22, 1989), later Gisella Neu-Fishler, was an American violinist, born in Austria-Hungary. Early life and education Neu was born in Konskau in Austria-Hungary (now Konská, part of Třinec in the Czech Republic). She was sometimes described as Hungarian. She studied at the Budapest Conservatory of Music, and in the United States with A. H. Trouk. Career Neu performed in Budapest, Vienna, and Havana as a child. Gisella Caccialanza
Gisella Caccialanza (September 17, 1914 – July 16, 1998) was an American prima ballerina and teacher who danced in theater, opera and film productions. She studied ballet under Italian teacher Giovanni Rosi, and then with ballet dancer Enrico Cecchetti at La Scala in Milan, Italy. Caccialanza danced with Viennese choreographer Albertina Rasch, the School of American Ballet, the New Opera Company, and the San Francisco Ballet, with which she later taught and coached. Biography Caccialanza was born to Italian American parents in San Diego on September 17, 1914. Gisella Perl
Gisella Perl (10 December 1907 – 16 December 1988) was a Hungarian Jewish gynecologist deported to Auschwitz concentration camp in 1944, where she helped hundreds of women, serving as an inmate gynecologist. She worked without the bare necessities required to practice medicine. Perl survived the Holocaust, emigrated to New York, and became one of the first women to publicize the Holocaust experience in English through her 1948 memoir, ''I Was a Doctor in Auschwitz''. She later specialized in infertility treatment at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York and eventually moved with her daughter to live in Herzliya, Israel, where she died. Gisella Floreanini (1906–1993) was an Italian teacher and politician who was an anti–Fascist activist and was a member of the Italian Parliament between 1948 and 1958. Early life and education Floreanini was born in Milan on 3 April 1906. She graduated from a conservatory and worked as a teacher during which she became familiar with the anti-Fascist movement. Anti-Fascist activities and exile Following the murder of Giacomo Matteotti in June 1924 Floreanini exiled into Lugano, Switzerland, where she collaborated with the anti-Fascist figures.
