Girchi – More Freedom
Girchi — More Freedom ( ka, გირჩი — მეტი თავისუფლება, tr, ) is a pro-Western libertarian political party in Georgia. It was in late 2020 founded by Zurab Japaridze, former leader of the New Political Center – Girchi, following the party split. The party was a part of Coalition for Change electoral alliance for the 2024 parliamentary election, receiving 3 seats in the Georgian parliament. History Political context The origins of Girchi date back to 2015 when four dissenting MPs from United National Movement, including Zurab Japaridze, left the party. In 2016 Girchi was registered as a political party and it subsequently took part in the 2020 parliamentary election winning 4 seats. However, claiming electoral fraud, Girchi refused to recognize the results and joined the boycott of the parliament. Zurab Japaridze
Zurab Girchi Japaridze ( ka, ზურაბ გირჩი ჯაფარიძე; born 1 January 1976) is a Georgian politician and co-founder of a libertarian party called Girchi. On 26 December 2020 he founded a new political party, Girchi - More Freedom. He was jailed in June 2025, under what are widely considered to be politically motivated charges. Early life Japaridze graduated from the Tbilisi State Medical University in 1999, and Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA) in 2005. Since 1998, he has worked for various Western-funded assistance programs for Georgia. He was a professor at the GIPA from 2005 to 2011 and at the Free University of Tbilisi since 2011. The 2021 Georgian local elections ( ka, საქართველოს ადგილობრივი თვითმმართველობის ორგანოების არჩევნები) were held on 2 and 30 October to elect the bodies of local government of Georgia. Background 19 April agreement On 19 April 2021, the ruling Georgian Dream party and the opposition signed an agreement, which ended a six-month political crisis stemming from the contested 2020 parliamentary elections. 2020 Georgian Parliamentary Election
Parliamentary elections were held in Georgia (country), Georgia on 31 October and 21 November 2020 to elect the 150 members of Parliament of Georgia, Parliament. United National Movement (Georgia)
United National Movement (UNM; ka, ერთიანი ნაციონალური მოძრაობა, tr) also colloquially known as the Natsebi is a liberal conservative political party in Georgia. Tina Bokuchava serves as the party's chairman, while its honorary chairman Mikheil Saakashvili is considered the de facto leader. UNM's electoral number is 5. UNM was founded by Mikheil Saakashvili in 2001, in opposition to Eduard Shevardnadze's government, rising to power following the Rose Revolution in 2003. During its nine-year rule, UNM implemented several major reforms.
