Gipsy.cz
Gipsy.cz is a Czech Romani hip hop group. They performed at the Glastonbury Festival in 2007 and represented their country at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 in Moscow, with the song " Aven Romale". The band plays a combination of hip hop and traditional Romani music, sung primarily in the Romani language, with some lyrics in Czech and English. As of 2013, they have released four studio albums. History Beginnings; ''Romano Hip Hop'': 2004–2008 In 2004, rapper Radovan "Radek" Banga released the solo album ''Ya favourite Cd Rom'' and later met violinist Vojta Lavička and brothers Jan (upright bass) and Petr Surmaj (guitar and accordion), with whom he formed the group Gipsy.cz. They rose to fame in 2006 with the single "Romano Hip Hop", from the album of the same name, which reached the MTV World Chart Express and was later certified Gold in the Czech Republic. The Czech Republic was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2009 with the song "Aven Romale" written by Radoslav "Gipsy" Banga. The song was performed by the group Gipsy.cz, which was internally selected by Czech Television to represent the nation at the 2009 contest in Moscow, Russia. Gipsy.cz was announced as the Czech entrant on 30 January 2009, while Czech Television organised the national final ''Eurosong 2009'' in order to select the song that Gipsy.cz would perform. Two songs were presented on 28 February 2009 and the public had until 14 March to vote for their favourite song, which resulted in "Aven Romale" as the Czech entry on 14 March 2009. The Eurovision Song Contest 2009 was the 54th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. It took place in Moscow, Russia, following the country's victory at the with the song "Believe (Dima Bilan song), Believe" by Dima Bilan. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster Channel One Russia, Channel One (C1R), the contest was held at the Olympic Stadium (Moscow), Olimpiysky Arena, and consisted of two semi-finals on 12 and 14 May, and a final on 16 May 2009. The Czech Republic was represented at the Eurovision Song Contest 2008 with the song "Have Some Fun", written by Gordon Pogoda and Stano Šimor, and performed by Tereza Kerndlová. The Czech participating broadcaster, (ČT), organised the national final ''Eurosong 2008'' in order to select its entry for the contest. Ten entries competed in the national final which took place on 26 January 2008 and "Have Some Fun" performed by Tereza Kerndlová was selected as the winner entirely by a public vote. The Czech Republic was drawn to compete in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest which took place on 22 May 2008. Performing during the show in position 8, "Have Some Fun" was not announced among the 10 qualifying entries of the second semi-final and therefore did not qualify to compete in the final.
