Giorgio Lamberti (tenor)
Giorgio Lamberti (born July 9, 1938) is an Italian operatic tenor. He made his professional debut at the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma in 1964 as Henri in ''Les vêpres siciliennes''. He returned to that theatre the following year to star in the world premiere of Mario Zafred’s ''Wallenstein''. In 1965 he made his American debut at the Lyric Opera of Chicago as Radames in Giuseppe Verdi's ''Aida''. In 1974 he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera as Cavaradossi in ''Tosca'', and in 1979 he gave his first performance at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden in the title role of ''Don Carlos''. He has sung leading roles internationally at such theaters as La Scala, the Berlin State Opera, the Vienna State Opera, the Paris Opera, the Teatro Colón and the Zürich Opera Zurich Opera (Opernhaus Zürich) is a Swiss opera company based in Zurich. Don Carlos
''Don Carlos'' is an 1867 five-act grand opera composed by Giuseppe Verdi to a French-language libretto by Joseph Méry and Camille du Locle, based on the 1787 play '' Don Karlos, Infant von Spanien'' (''Don Carlos, Infante of Spain'') by Friedrich Schiller and several incidents from Eugène Cormon's 1846 play ''Philippe II, Roi d'Espagne''. The opera is most often performed in Italian translation, usually under the title ''Don Carlo''. The opera's story is based on conflicts in the life of Carlos, Prince of Asturias (1545–1568). Though he was betrothed to Elisabeth of Valois, part of the peace treaty ending the Italian War of 1551–59 between the Houses of Habsburg and Valois demanded that she be married instead to his father Philip II of Spain. The Teatro Colón () is a historic opera house in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is considered one of the ten best opera houses in the world by National Geographic. According to a survey carried out by the acoustics expert Leo Beranek among leading international opera and orchestra directors, the Teatro Colón has the room with the best acoustics for opera and the second best for concerts in the world. The present Colón replaced an original theatre which opened in 1857.
