Gillman Speedway
Gillman Speedway (sometimes called Gillman Speedway Stadium) is a purpose built, long motorcycle speedway located in the Adelaide suburb of Gillman in South Australia. The track opened in 1998 and runs approximately 13 meetings per season from October to March/April. Gillman Speedway is currently managed and promoted by former Sidecar racer David Parker. History The sudden and forced closure of the North Arm Speedway at the end of the 1996–97 season left Adelaide without a weekly operating venue for motorcycle speedway for the first time in almost 80 years. North Arm was located on land owned by the Government of South Australia and the land was reclaimed in mid-1997. Christopher Robert Holder (born 24 September 1987 in Sydney, New South Wales) is an Australian speedway rider, who was the 2012 World Speedway Champion. He is also five times Australian champion (2008, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2014. Career Holder won the Australian Under-21 Championship in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, in addition to finishing runner-up in the Under-21 World Championship in 2007 and 2008. Rusty Harrison
Russell Wade Harrison (born 11 October 1981 in Elizabeth, South Australia) is an Australian former motorcycle speedway rider. Career summary Harrison won the Australian Under-16 Championship in 1995 in Perth and again in 1997 at his home track in Adelaide ( Sidewinders Speedway), before going on to be the Australian Under-21 Champion in 2001, winning again at home in Adelaide, this time at the Gillman Speedway. In 2002 he was third in the Australian Under-21 Championship at Gillman behind winner Travis McGowan and second placed Cameron Woodward. Harrison also won the South Australian Championship in 2003 Gillman. As of 2015, Harrison's 2003 win was the last time a South Australian born rider has won the SA Championship (Adelaide based, but Darwin born Rory Schlein would win the title from 2004-2007). Australian Under-21 Individual Speedway Championship
The Australian Under-21 Speedway Championship is a motorcycle speedway championship held each year since 1986, to determine the Australian Under-21 national champion. The event is organised by Motorcycling Australia (MA). History The event was run as the Australian Under-18 Championship in 1986. This lasted just one year and was changed to the Under-21 Championship in 1987, to bring it in line with the Individual Speedway Junior World Championship which was also for Under-21s. The inaugural Under-21 Championship in 1987 was held at the Undera Park Speedway in Victoria. The championship was won by Queenslander Gary Allan. It would take another 22 years (2009) before another Queenslander Darcy Ward won the event. Shane Andrew Parker (born 29 April 1970 in Adelaide, South Australia) is a former motorcycle speedway rider from Australia and a four time South Australian Champion. Career Australia Parker attended LeFevre High School in the Adelaide suburb of Semaphore South, and started in speedway at the Under-16 Sidewinders Speedway in Wingfield in the early 1980s. He won the South Australian Under-16 Championships in 1983 and 1984 and went on to win the Australian Under-16 Championship in 1985 at Sidewinders (defeating Leigh Adams), and finish third in 1986 at the Olympic Park Speedway in Mildura, before turning 16 and graduating into the senior ranks.
