Gillian Wright
Gillian Wright (born 7 December 1959) is an English actress, known for portraying the role of Jean Slater on the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders'' since 2004, for which she has won numerous awards. She previously worked as a drama teacher and a theatre director before occupying acting roles. Career Wright's first television role was in an episode of ''ChuckleVision'' as Mrs. Stone in 1994. She went on to portray guest roles in ''Casualty'' and ''Holby City'', before portraying the nanny in the CITV children's comedy '' Sir Gadabout: The Worst Knight in the Land'' for two series between 2002 and 2003. She also appeared in episodes of ''Doctors'', ''Calendar Girls'' and '' Heartbeat'', before taking on her prestigious role of Jean Slater in the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders''. Bermondsey ( ) is a district in southeast London, part of the London Borough of Southwark, England, southeast of Charing Cross. Walford is a fictional borough of East London in the BBC soap opera ''EastEnders''. It is the primary setting for the soap. ''EastEnders'' is filmed at Borehamwood in Hertfordshire, towards the north-west of London. Much of the location work is filmed in nearby Watford, which was chosen for many of the exterior scenes due to its close proximity and the town's name being so similar to Walford. Thus, any stray road signs or advertising boards which are accidentally filmed in the back of shots will appear to read Walford. Locations used in Watford include most interior and exterior church scenes of various churches, the snooker club, the County Court and Magistrates' Courts courtrooms, and the cemetery (where most of the deceased characters are interred). York Theatre Royal
York Theatre Royal is a theatre in St Leonard's Place, in York, England, which dates back to 1744. The theatre currently seats 750 people. Whilst the theatre is traditionally a proscenium theatre, it was reconfigured for a season in 2011 to offer productions in-the-round. The theatre puts on many of its own productions, as well as hosting touring companies, one of which is Pilot Theatre, a national touring company which often co-produces its work with the theatre. Pilot Theatre
Pilot Theatre is an Arts Council England funded theatre company based in York, England. It was founded in 1981 by students from Bretton Hall College in Wakefield. The company was based in Wakefield and Castleford before moving to York in 2001. History The company is now based at York Guildhall. It tours work in the UK and internationally. As of July 2016, the company's artistic direction is led by Esther Richardson. The previous artistic director, Marcus Romer, who wrote, directed, and shaped the identity of the company since 1995, has since moved on to establish Arts Beacon. The 2019 British Soap Awards honoured the best in British soap operas throughout 2018 and 2019. The ceremony was held on 1 June 2019 at the Lowry theatre in Salford Quays, Salford, and was broadcast live on ITV1 and STV. John Yorke (producer)
John Roland Clifford Yorke (born 9 July 1962) is a British television producer and script editor, who was head of Channel 4 Drama 2003–2005, controller of BBC drama production 2006–2012 and MD of Company Pictures (2013–2015). Yorke wrote ''Into the Woods: How Stories Work and Why We Tell Them'' (2014), a screenwriting guide that proposes a five act structure to film and television narrative.
