The Bronze Wolf Award is an award presented by the World Organization of the Scout Movement for outstanding service by an individual to the Scout Movement. Just over 400 people have received the Bronze Wolf since its creation in 1935. WOSM has restricted the number of recipients during the award’s history in order to maintain its significance. Currently, the award is limited to approximately one recipient for every two million members worldwide. The award itself consists of a bronze wolf pendant hung on a dark green ribbon bordered by two narrow stripes of yellow. History WOSM first considered an international Scouting award in 1924. World Organization Of The Scout Movement
The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM ) is the largest and, after the Order of World Scouts (formed in 1911), is the second-oldest international organization in the Scout Movement, having been established in 1922. It has 176 members. These members are national scout organizations that founded WOSM or have subsequently been recognised by WOSM, which collectively have around 43 million participants. Its operational headquarters is in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, although it is legally based in Geneva, Switzerland. WOSM's stated mission is "to contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Scout Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society". Richard Francis "John" Thurman OBE JP (4 April 1911 – April 1985) was a British Scouting notable and Camp Chief of Gilwell Park from 1943 to 1969 and scouting’s first International Director of Adult Leader Training In 1943, he introduced the Gilwell woggle as the insignia for Basic Training. The woggle was first created in the early 1920s by Bill Shankley, a member of the Gilwell staff. He produced a two-strand Turk's head slide which was adopted as the official woggle. From 1943 to 1989, the Gilwell woggle was awarded on the completion of Basic Training, and the Gilwell scarf and the Wood Badge beads were awarded on the completion of Advanced Training. In 1962 Thurman conducted the only Wood Badge course ever in Burma. He was awarded the Bronze Wolf and the Silver Jay (Dutch scouts) in 1959 and the Silver Buffalo Award in 1962. William Durant Campbell
William Durant Campbell (March 18, 1907 – October 20, 1995) was a highly-decorated leader of the Scouting movement in the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s. Campbell was born in Flint, Michigan, Flint, Michigan, a grandson of William C. Durant, the founder of General Motors. He graduated from Princeton University in 1929, and first went into banking. After a few years, he became a field associate of the American Museum of Natural History and led six of their African expeditions in the 1930s. Lt. Gen. Herman Franciscus Maria baron van Voorst tot Voorst (The Hague, 2 August 1886 - 9 July 1971) was a Dutch Army officer and politician. He was the son of Jan Joseph Godfried van Voorst tot Voorst Senior, and a younger brother of General Godfried van Voorst tot Voorst. In 1915, he married Felicia Maria baroness Schimmelpenninck van der Oye (1889-1952). He attended the Royal Military Academy in Breda and The Hague as well as the Saumur Cavalry School in France. Salvador Fernández Beltrán D.J.C. (born at Matanzas, Cuba – 1987 in Venezuela) was among the first in the Americas to receive Wood Badge training, at Gilwell Park, England. He was the first to receive honorary appointment as Deputy Camp Chief of Gilwell. With this influence, the Scouts of Cuba began to use short trousers like those worn by the English. Fernandez Beltrán was known for his work within the Scouts of Cuba, but served World Scouting in several capacities. Jens Hvass (8. April 1898 - 23. February 1996) served as the Camp Chief of the 2nd World Scout Jamboree, held from August 9 to 17, 1924 at Ermelunden, Denmark, and was later a state forester and Divisional Scout Commissioner in Rold Skov, North Jutland, where a jamboree-square can still be found near the . Olave St Clair Baden-Powell, Baroness Baden-Powell (; 22 February 1889 – 25 June 1977) was the first Chief Guide for Britain and the wife of Robert Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell (the founder of Scouting and co-founder of Girl Guides). Glad Bincham
Thomas Gladstone "Glad" Bincham was the International Conference of the Boy Scout Movement's Chief International Scout Commissioner from 1944 to 1956, as well as The Boy Scouts Association of the United Kingdom International Commissioner, and played a major role in the resumption of Scouting in Europe after World War II. He was an industrialist in the stationery industry. Bincham and A.W. Colonel Granville Walton, OBE, CMG (1888-1974) served as The Boy Scouts Association Headquarters Commissioner for Overseas Scouts and, later, was Assistant Chief Scout to the Association's Chief Scout, Robert Baden-Powell, 1st Baron Baden-Powell.
