Gilbert Robert Beveridge
Gilbert Robert Beveridge (1903—1958) was an architect in Queensland, Australia. Some of his works are now heritage-listed. Early life Gilbert Robert Beveridge was born in Brisbane on 28 February 1903, the son of Robert Leake Beveridge and his wife Eliza Ann (née Brown). He studied at the Brisbane Central Technical College and was indentured to Brisbane architect Lange Powell. Beveridge received his Diploma of Architecture from the Architectural Association in London and was awarded the Archibald Dawnay scholarship in 1927. Career Beveridge had a practice at Ascot, Queensland, Ascot from 1931–35 after which time he was employed first as an Assistant Architect then in 1938 as an Architect by the Queensland Works Department Architectural Branch. Beveridge's work in private practice included residential and small commercial projects. Brisbane Central Technical College
Brisbane Central Technical College is a heritage-listed technical college at 2 George Street, Brisbane, George Street, Brisbane City, Queensland, Brisbane City, City of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1911 to 1956. It became the Queensland Institute of Technology (QIT) in 1965, and then in 1987 that became the Queensland University of Technology (QUT 1987 to present). It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 27 August 1999. The college was founded in 1908, and eventually became the Queensland Institute of Technology. While not able to grant bachelor's degrees, the college was able to issue diplomas which gave the recipients the right to "letters" after their name. Lange Powell
Lange Leopold Powell (1886–1938) was a noted architect who designed many important buildings in Brisbane and the state of Queensland. He started practice in 1909; his major works included St Martin's War Memorial Hospital (opened 1922) and the Masonic Temple, Brisbane (1928) Powell served as president of the Queensland Institute of Architects (1927–1931), as president of the Australian Institute of Architects (1928–1929), and as president of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (1932–1933). ''The Queenslander'' was the weekly summary and literary edition of the ''Brisbane Courier'', the leading journal in the colony (later state) of Queensland since the 1850s. ''The Queenslander'' was launched by the Brisbane Newspaper Company in 1866, and discontinued in 1939. History ''The Queenslander'' was first published on 3 February 1866 in Brisbane by Thomas Blacket Stephens. The last edition was printed on 22 February 1939. Bulimba State School is a heritage-listed state school at 261 Oxford Street, Bulimba, Queensland, Australia. It was built from 1915 to 1955. It was added to the Queensland Heritage Register on 26 November 1999. History Bulimba State School was first established in 1866 and contains several generations of buildings and structures that have been erected by the Department of Public Works to meet the growing needs of the community and are representative of some of the developments in education policy in Queensland since that time. Prior to the establishment of the Bulimba State School, classes were held initially at Bulimba House and then at the Baptist Church. Maryborough Government Offices Building is a heritage-listed office building at 123 Wharf Street, Maryborough, Fraser Coast Region, Queensland, Australia. It was designed by Gilbert Robert Beveridge and Raymond Clare Nowland and built in 1940 by relief work. It is also known as State Government Insurance Offices and State Government Offices.
