Gilbert Oluwatosin Jesse
Gilbert Oluwatosin Jesse (17 May 1937 – 7 October 2003) was a factional Pastor and Spiritual Head of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) from 30 December 2002 until his death. He succeeded Philip Hunsu Ajose, who had died on 2 March 2001. There was a dispute over his leadership, with the International Headquarters of the church declaring that the Reverend Emmanuel Oschoffa, son of the church founder Samuel Oshoffa, was the leader. Following Jesse's death, his faction declared that Superior Evangelist Paul Suru Maforikan was the new spiritual leader of the church. Early years Jesse was born on 17 May 1937 in Mahin, Ese Odo, Ilaje – Ese Odo Local Government of Ondo State, Nigeria. Celestial Church Of Christ
The Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) is a Pentecostal church in the Aladura movement, which was founded by Samuel Oshoffa on 29 September 1947 in Porto-Novo, Benin. It has spread from West Africa to countries in Europe, such as Belgium, France, and the United Kingdom, but a number of its parishes are located in Nigeria, particularly in Lagos and Ogun State. History Oshoffa was a former carpenter born in Dahomey (now Benin) in 1909. Raised as a Methodist, he had a divine revelation while lost in a forest on 23 May 1947 during a solar eclipse. Philip Hunsu Ajose
Philip Hunsu Ajose (10 August 1932 - 2 March 2001) was the third Pastor of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC), succeeding Alexander Abiodun Adebayo Bada on 2 October 2000 and being formally declared leader on 24 December 2000. Shortly after being appointed he fell ill, dying on 2 March 2001. Early years Ajose was born on 10 August 1932 in Badagry, Lagos State, Nigeria. His father was a co-founder of the United Methodist African Church at Eleja, Badagry. Ajose attended St Thomas Primary School, Badagry (1939 - 1949). He was accepted by the Nigeria Ports Authority for a three-year course in Mechanical Engineering, graduating with a certificate in internal combustion engineering. He obtained a job with the Electric Corporation of Nigeria (ECN) in 1951, working at the Ijora Power Station. Emmanuel Oschoffa
Emmanuel Mobiyina Oshoffa (full name Emmanuel Mobiyina Friday Adebowale Abiodun vihan Oshoffa, born 25 December 1948) is the pastor and spiritual head of the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC). Although Emmanuel Oshoffa controls the overwhelming fraction of the church, and the Holy Pilgrimage city in Imeko where the founder, his father, was buried, a rival faction considers Beni Omoge, ostensibly the successor to Maforikan Surulere to be the leader of their own faction. Oshoffa was installed as head of the CCC in December 2002. as successor to pastor Philip Hunsu Ajose, who died in March 2001. Samuel Bilewu Joseph Oshoffa (October 11, 1909 – September 10, 1985) was the founder of the Celestial Church of Christ after reportedly resurrecting people from the dead. He founded the church in 1947 after being lost for three months near Porto-Novo in Benin. The church now has its main offices in Bénin and Nigeria. Five percent, or 400,000, of the 8 million people of Benin are Celestial Christians. This church was founded by him, claiming a "divine order" was given to him by an angel of God, investing his belief of the need for Evangelism to the world. Paul Suru Maforikan was appointed Pastor and spiritual leader of the Celestial Church of Christ following the death of Gilbert Oluwatosin Jesse in October 2003. Early years Maforikan was born on 19 September 1930 in Ajase, Benin, where his father had moved from Badagry, Nigeria. He was a member of Christ Apostolic Church before joining the Celestial Church Of Christ in 1948 shortly after its foundation. He followed the Pastor Founder S.B.J. Oschoffa to Nigeria. He was Oyo State Evangelist for 10 years before being appointed a Deputy Pastor in December 2002. Ese Odo is a Local Government Area in Ondo State, Nigeria, populated by the Ijaw (Izon) ethnic sub groups of the Western Apoi tribe and the Arogbo tribe.
