Gilbert Deya
Gilbert Juma Deya () (2 February 1937 – 17 June 2025) was a stonemason turned Evangelicalism, evangelist who lived in Britain from the mid-1990s until 2017, when he was extradited to Kenya to face charges of stealing five children between 1999 and 2004. He was acquitted of the charges in 2023. His organization, Gilbert Deya Ministries, claimed that Deya was able to help infertile women to conceive through the power of prayer. Background Deya was born in the morning of 2 February 1937 in Juja, Kiambu County and died on 17 June 2025, outside of Nairobi and was the eleventh child in a family of fifteen children. He belonged to Luo people of Kenya and Tanzania, Luo tribe, and his name "Juma" means Sunday, which was the day he was born. Acquittal
In common law jurisdictions, an acquittal means that the criminal prosecution has failed to prove that the accused is guilty beyond a reasonable doubt of the charge presented. It certifies that the accused is free from the charge of an offense, as far as criminal law is concerned. The finality of an acquittal is dependent on the jurisdiction. Edinburgh Sheriff Court is a sheriff court in Chambers Street in Edinburgh, within the sheriffdom of Edinburgh and Borders. History Until the mid-1990s, hearings took place in the Justiciary Building, Edinburgh, Old Sheriff Court in the Lawnmarket.
