Gigolos Get Lonely Too
"Gigolos Get Lonely Too" is the fifth track from the Time's six-song album, '' What Time Is It?''. One of the first songs recorded for the album, it was produced, arranged, composed and performed by Prince with Morris Day later adding his lead vocals. The song is the album's only ballad, featuring treated electronic drums, as well as live drums. Keyboards and bass make up the remaining instrumentation with an understated guitar. Day sang and played drums, Jesse Johnson played guitar, and Prince played everything else. The single was backed with the album's closing track "I Don't Wanna Leave You". The single reached number 77 on the R&B charts. A live recording of the song from 1998 was included on Morris Day's 2004 release, '' It's About Time''. A different mix of the song is heard on the posthumous Prince album ''Originals'', released in 2019. This version has Prince on lead vocals and most instruments, Johnson on guitar and backing vocals, and Day on drums and backing vocal ...

Oberheim OB-Xa
The Oberheim OB-Xa was the second of Oberheim's OB-series polyphonic analog subtractive synthesizers, replacing the OB-X with updated features. History The OB-Xa was released in December 1980, replacing the OB-X after only a year on the market. The OB-Xa was the first Oberheim product adorned with blue horizontal pinstripes on black background that would become standard trade dress for future Oberheim products. While the OB-Xa offered the same polyphony as its predecessor (4, 6 and 8-voice models were offered), its keyboard could be split into two halves (each with its own voice) or to layer voices to create thicker sound (essentially making two notes sound for every key pressed). The OB-Xa also added the ability to switch between 2-pole 12 dB and 4-pole 24 dB filtering. It offered Filter Envelope modulation for oscillator 2 (which allows the pitch to be modulated by the envelope) in place of the OB-X's ability to cross modulate (frequency modulation of the first VCO ...

Song Recordings Produced By Prince (musician)
A song is a musical composition performed by the human voice. The voice often carries the melody (a series of distinct and fixed pitches) using patterns of sound and silence. Songs have a structure, such as the common ABA form, and are usually made of sections that are repeated or performed with variation later. A song without instruments is said to be a cappella. Written words created specifically for music, or for which music is specifically created, are called lyrics. If a pre-existing poem is set to composed music in the classical tradition, it is called an art song. Songs that are sung on repeated pitches without distinct contours and patterns that rise and fall are called chants. Songs composed in a simple style that are learned informally by ear are often referred to as folk songs. Songs composed for the mass market, designed to be sung by professional singers who sell their recordings or live shows, are called popular songs. These songs, which have broad appeal, are o ...

Yamaha CP-70
The Yamaha CP-70 is an electric piano manufactured by Yamaha Corporation between 1976 and 1985. The instrument was based on earlier electric piano technology, but took advantage of improved pickups along with the company's longstanding experience in manufacturing acoustic pianos. The new technology and a lack of a soundboard gave it a more accurate emulation of an acoustic piano than earlier models. It was well received and used by a number of musicians in the late 1970s and early 1980s, including the Grateful Dead's Keith Godchaux and Genesis' Tony Banks. It continues to be used in the 21st century by a number of artists, and it is still possible to buy replacement parts. Features The CP-70 has the same piano action as an acoustic instrument, using wooden keys to operate hammers which hit strings, but it does not contain a soundboard. It has a smaller number of specially manufactured strings, reducing the overall weight. In particular, the bass strings are very short comp ...

A Waveform Enhancement switch allowed selection of a square wave voice waveform vs. the default quasi-sawtooth waveform. The ARP Omni had a unique logo that was painted on to the back face of the unit. Voicing The String and Synthesizer sections of the 49-note Omni utilized the Mostek MK50240 Top Octave generator IC along with divide-down circuitry; as a result, these sectio ...

Originals (Prince Album)
''Originals'' is a posthumous demo album by American musician Prince, released through Warner Records on June 7, 2019 (on what would have been Prince's 61st birthday), exclusively through Tidal, with a wide release following on June 21, 2019. It compiles the original demo versions of songs Prince wrote and gave to other artists. All except for Prince's recording of "Nothing Compares 2 U", which was first officially released in 2018, were previously unreleased. The demo album was met with widespread critical acclaim, and debuted at number 15 on the ''Billboard'' 200, as well as the top 10 in Belgium, Hungary, Portugal, and Switzerland. Background The songs were written and the demos recorded from the early 1980s to the early 1990s, but a specific emphasis was placed on those recorded between 1981 and 1985 due to the size of Prince's unreleased archive. Troy Carter, a music manager and entertainment adviser to Prince's estate, selected the tracks, with some input from Jay-Z, who " ...

What Time Is It? (album)
''What Time Is It?'' is a 1982 album by the Time. Their second album, it was recorded at Sunset Sound and Prince's home studio in the Minneapolis suburbs. The title of the album comes from an exclamation by Morris Day that became associated with the band's on-stage theatrics, appearing frequently on the band's debut album as well. Showcasing the synth-funk of Prince's Minneapolis sound, ''What Time Is It?'' produced three singles: " 777-9311", " The Walk" and " Gigolos Get Lonely Too". Recording Although the individual members of the Time are credited with instrumentation, most of the instruments on the album were played by Prince, with Morris Day playing drums on half of the album. Morris Day sang lead vocals, and Vanity performed spoken vocals on "The Walk". Additionally, the Time guitarist Jesse Johnson appears on "Gigolos Get Lonely Too". Commercial performance The album peaked at number 26 on the ''Billboard'' 200 and number two on the Top Soul LPs. It spent a t ...

It's About Time (Morris Day Album)
''It's About Time'' is the fourth solo album by R&B singer Morris Day. Released 12 years after his previous album ''Guaranteed (Morris Day album), Guaranteed'', ''It's About Time'' is somewhat a return to form for Day. With the exception of four new songs, the album consists of previous hits, recorded live with the modern line-up of The Time (band), The Time. The live material was poorly edited to remove curse words and to fade abruptly between songs, removing most of the audience reactions. The patchiness of the album was not received well. Track listing # "The Bird (The Time song), The Bird" – 4:13 ''composed by Prince (musician), Jamie Starr/Morris Day/Jesse Johnson (musician), Jesse Johnson'' # "Jungle Love (The Time song), Jungle Love" – 2:57 ''composed by Jamie Starr/Morris Day/Jesse Johnson'' # "Gigolos Get Lonely Too" – 4:17 ''composed by Jamie Starr'' # "Cool (The Time song), Cool" – 6:20 ''composed by Jamie Starr/Dez Dickerson'' # "Ice Cream Castles" – 4 ...
