Gifi Fields
Gordon Ivan "Gifi" Fields (born June 1951) is a British fashion designer and businessman. He is a co-founder of the British Fashion Council and one of the creators of the rah-rah skirt. Biography After leaving school at the age of 16, Gifi Fields founded a succession of fashion labels. In 1968, he founded Ragfreak Clothing, which closed in 1971 when he founded Gingernut. When that closed in 1975, he opened Coppernob the following year. He was a co-founder of the British Fashion Council in 1983, the same year he founded Snob, which operated until 1987. During the early part of his career, he designed for shops such as Bloomingdales, Harvey Nichols and Harrods. Stirling Cooper
Stirling Cooper was a London-based fashion wholesaler and retailer that, along with brands such as Biba, Quorum, Browns and Clobber, helped to redefine UK fashion in the late 1960s. Part of the Swinging London scene in the early years, and with a destination store on Wigmore Street that attracted rock stars such as Mick Jagger, it grew into a substantial wholesaler and retailer and was even more influential in the 1970s, when UK-wide concessions created accessible and affordable high fashion. Establishment Stirling Cooper was started by two London cab drivers Ronnie Stirling and Jeff Cooper in 1967. Plus-size Clothing
Plus-size clothing is clothing proportioned specifically for people above the average clothing size. The application of the term varies from country to country, and according to which industry the person is involved in. According to ''PLUS Model'' magazine, "In the fashion industry, plus size is identified as sizes 18 and over, or sizes 1X-6X and extended size as 7X and up". French Connection (also branded as FCUK or fcuk) is a UK-based global retailer and wholesaler of fashion clothing, accessories and homeware. Founded in the early 1970s by Stephen Marks who also serves as chairman and chief executive, it is based in London and its parent French Connection Group PLC is listed on the London Stock Exchange. Alice Pollock
Alice Pollock (born 1942) is a British fashion designer and retailer who founded the boutique ''Quorum'', which featured the work of fellow designers Ossie Clark and Celia Birtwell, and later started the male modelling agency ''English Boy'' in London. Quorum Pollock founded ''Quorum'' in 1964 with the textile designer Celia Birtwell. Her first backer was the theatre producer Michael White, whose wife, the former model Sarah Hillsdon, designed for Quorum until her pregnancy. It was Pollock's second backer, a stockbroker called Michael Armitage, who introduced her to Ossie Clark at his RCA show. Jeff Banks PPCSD (born Jeffrey Tatham-Banks, 17 March 1943) is a Welsh fashion designer of men's and women's clothing, jewellery, and home furnishings. Born in Ebbw Vale, Wales, Banks co-founded the fashion chain Warehouse in the late 1970s. He later created and presented the television programme '' The Clothes Show'', broadcast on BBC One from 1986 to 2000. Rah-rah Skirt
The rah-rah (or ra-ra) skirt is a short flounced layered skirt that originated in cheerleading and became a popular fashion trend among teenage girls in the early 1980s. As such it marked, as the ''Oxford Dictionary'' noted, the first successful attempt to revive the miniskirt that had been introduced in the mid-1960s. It was created by Angela Stone and Gifi Fields, who based the idea on creating a tutu out of heavier fabric. Later in the 1980s it was often worn with leather, denim or lace. In the 1990s the mini came back into fashion in its own right, largely discarding the frills of the rah-rah. Eventually, the latter did return again in Britain in 2008: "Eighties look is all the ra-rave". ''Board Game Top Shop'', known in Japan as (''Tenantouŏ̄zu''), is a video board game developed by KID for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn. Although both releases were published in Japan, only the PlayStation version was issued in North America where it was given an "E" rating by the ESRB.
