Giffey Senate
The Giffey senate was the state government of Berlin between 2021 and 2023, sworn in on 21 December 2021 after Franziska Giffey was elected as Governing Mayor of Berlin by the members of the Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin. It was the 28th Senate of Berlin. It was formed after the 2021 Berlin state election by the Social Democratic Party (SPD), Alliance 90/The Greens (GRÜNE), and The Left (LINKE). Excluding the Governing Mayor, the senate comprised ten ministers, called Senators. Three were members of the SPD, three were members of the Greens, three were members of the Left, and one was an independent politician (nominated by the SPD). The Giffey senate was succeeded by the Wegner senate on 27 April 2023. Franziska Giffey (, Süllke, born 3 May 1978) is a German politician of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) who has been serving as Governing Mayor of Berlin since December 2021, the first woman elected to this position. An independent or non-partisan politician is a politician not affiliated with any political party or bureaucratic association. There are numerous reasons why someone may stand for office as an independent. Some politicians have political views that do not align with the platforms of any political party, and therefore choose not to affiliate with them. Iris Spranger
Iris Spranger (born 19 September 1961) is a German politician of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) who has served as Senator for Interior, Digitalisation and Sport in the Berlin state government since December 2021. She has been a member of the Abgeordnetenhaus of Berlin since 2011, and previously served from 1999 to 2006. From 2006 to 2011 she was State Secretary in the state Finance Department. Personal life Spranger studied law at the Humboldt University of Berlin from 1986 to 1991. From 1993 she worked as an accountant and one year later founded a financial accounting company. From 1994 to 2006, she was a freelance lecturer for tax law and commercial software at the Potsdam Chamber of Trades. Spranger is married and has one son. Daniel Wesener
Daniel Wesener (born 5 December 1975) is a German politician of the Alliance 90/The Greens who served as State Minister (''Senator'') for Finance in the government of Governing Mayor Franziska Giffey of Berlin from December 2021 to April 2023. He was previously state chairman of the Greens from 2011 to 2017, and a member of the State Parliament of Berlin from 2016 to 2022. Early life and education Wesener was born and grew up in Hamburg. After graduating from the Albert-Schweitzer-Gymnasium and completing community service, he moved to Berlin in 1996. Astrid-Sabine Busse
Astrid-Sabine Busse (born 23 October 1957) is a German educator and politician of the Social Democratic Party (SPD) who is serving as Senator for Education, Youth and Family in the Berlin state government since December 2021. Prior, she was chaired the Association of Berlin School Boards from 2015 to 2021. Early life and educational career Busse started school at the Tempelhofer Feld elementary school in 1965, then attended the Luise-Henriette Gymnasium in Alt-Tempelhof. She studied geography and political science at the Berlin University of Education from 1976 to 1980, completing her teacher training at an elementary school in Marienfelde from 1982 to 1984. The ''Berliner Zeitung'' (, ''Berlin Newspaper'') is a daily newspaper based in Berlin, Germany. Founded in East Germany in 1945, it is the only East German paper to achieve national prominence since reunification. It is published by Berliner Verlag.
