Set-in Neck
A set-in neck (often shortened to ''set neck'') is a traditional form of joining the neck of a stringed instrument with its body. This is typically done with a tightly fitted mortise-and-tenon or dovetail joint, secured with glue. Sonic qualities often attributed to this style of neck joint include a warm tone, long sustain, and a large surface area to transmit string vibration, leading to a "live" feeling instrument. But hard physical evidence for any of these is lacking, and the attribution of long sustain has been definitively contradicted by experimentation. In guitars it also often allows superior access to top frets closest to the body. It is a common belief that this yields a stronger body-to-neck connection than an inexpensive mechanically joined bolt-on neck. Sonic Youth
Sonic Youth were an American rock band formed in New York City in 1981. Thurston Joseph Moore (born July 25, 1958) is an American guitarist, singer and songwriter best known as a member of the rock band Sonic Youth. He has also participated in many solo and group collaborations outside Sonic Youth, as well as running the Ecstatic Peace! record label. ''The Record'' is the debut studio album by the American hardcore punk band Fear (band), Fear, released May 16, 1982, by Slash Records. It was produced by Gary Lubow. The album was reissued on Compact Disc, CD in 1991 with the single "Fuck Christmas" as a bonus track. The band re-recorded the album in its entirety and released it under the title ''The Fear Record'' in 2012. Reception The album has been regarded as Fear's best album and as a classic album of the 1980s Los Angeles hardcore punk scene. Lee James Jude Capallero (born April 10, 1950), also known as Lee Ving, is an American guitarist, singer, and actor. Ving is the frontman of the Los Angeles-based hardcore punk band Fear. As an actor, Ving played topless club owner Johnny C. in '' Flashdance'' (1983), motorcycle gang leader Greer in '' Streets of Fire'' (1984) and murder victim Mr. Boddy in the murder mystery film '' Clue'' (1985). He also played the Installer in the movie '' The Wild Life'' (1984) with Christopher Penn. Down is an American heavy metal supergroup that formed in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1991. Superjoint, formerly known as Superjoint Ritual, was an American metal/ hardcore band formed in the 1990s and fronted by Pantera vocalist Phil Anselmo. History The band was formed by Phil Anselmo, Joe Fazzio, and Jimmy Bower in the early 1990s, later to be joined by Hank Williams III and Kevin Bond. They were founded by Anselmo parallel to his membership in Pantera, but became a full-time endeavor a few years later after Pantera's dissolution. Eyehategod
Eyehategod (also abbreviated and referred to as EHG) is an American sludge metal band from New Orleans, Louisiana, who formed in 1988. They have become one of the better known bands to emerge from the NOLA metal scene. Their core lineup has remained consistent since the band's inception, with the exception of the bassist (the role of which has been filled by several musicians over the years), until the death of drummer Joey LaCaze in 2013. Crowbar (American Band)
Crowbar is an American sludge metal band formed in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1990. The band is fronted by vocalist/guitarist Kirk Windstein, Crowbar's sole constant member. Infusing a slow, brooding doom metal sound with the aggression of hardcore punk, Crowbar along with other bands in the New Orleans heavy metal scene pioneered a style known as sludge metal, though Windstein himself has admitted a dislike for the term.
