Gibson, Inc. Factory And Office Building
The Gibson, Inc. Factory and Office Building is a former industrial building located at 225 Parsons Street in Kalamazoo, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2022. History In 1902, Orville Gibson incorporated the Gibson Mandolin Guitar Company in Kalamazoo. Production began in a former bakery located in downtown Kalamazoo. They company soon moved to a larger facility, and in 1911 moved again to a larger two-story industrial building. By this time the company employed over sixty workmen, and even the new facility was proving too small. The same year, the company purchased land on Parsons Street and hired local architect George Gilbert Worden to design a new factory and office building. However, securing permits and material was slow, and construction did not begin until 1916, with the building completed in 1917. Kalamazoo ( ) is a city in Kalamazoo County, Michigan, United States, and its county seat. At the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, Kalamazoo had a population of 73,598. It is the principal city of the Kalamazoo–Portage metropolitan area in southwestern Michigan, which had a population of 261,670 in 2020. Orville H. Gibson (May 8, 1856 – August 19, 1918) was an American luthier who founded the Gibson (guitar company), Gibson Guitar Company in Kalamazoo, Michigan in 1902, makers of guitars, mandolins and other instruments. His earliest known instrument was a 10-string mandolin-guitar, which bears the date 1894. Gibson's mandolins were "unlike any previous flatback instrument," according to music historian Paul Sparks. (formerly Gibson Guitar Corporation and Gibson Brands Inc.) is an American manufacturer of Guitar manufacturing, guitars, other musical instruments, and professional audio equipment from Kalamazoo, Michigan, and now based in Nashville, Tennessee. Orville Gibson started making instruments in 1894 and founded the company in 1902 as the Gibson Mandolin-Guitar Mfg. Co. Ltd. in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to make mandolin-family instruments. Heritage Guitar is an American musical instrument manufacturer company based in Kalamazoo, Michigan, United States. The company produces a range of electric guitars, including hollow-body models. History Heritage Guitar was founded in 1985 by three former employees of the Gibson guitar factory, Jim Deurloo, Marv Lamb, and JP Moats. Two other former Gibson employees that took part in the company were Bill Paige and Mike Korpak. Modern architecture, also called modernist architecture, or the modern movement, is an architectural movement and style that was prominent in the 20th century, between the earlier Art Deco and later postmodern movements.
