Gibbs, Tennessee
Harbison Crossroads is an unincorporated community of Knox County, Tennessee, United States, located approximately 10 miles Northeast of Knoxville. It is also referred by the unofficial name of Gibbs. History The area known today as Harbison Crossroads/Gibbs was first discovered by American Revolutionary War veteran James Harbison, who settled the area in the 1790s and operated a toll gate at the crossroads of Emory Road and Tazewell Pike. Nicholas Gibbs, settled in the area following Harbison in a log cabin. Gibbs would later be used as the name of the area following Harbison Crossroads. The different names of the area has led to confusion, as state and county maps designate the area as Harbison Crossroads, and public schools located within the community are named for Gibbs, including Gibbs Elementary, Middle and High schools. Gibbs High School is a public high school located in Corryton, Tennessee, United States. The school was founded in 1913 in a two-story brick building built on 12 acres; it burned down in 1937. The second building burned down 13 years later in 1950. The third and current school is near the intersection of Tazewell Pike and East Emory Road. When the new Gibbs Elementary School opened across Tazewell Pike in 2007, the high school began using the old elementary school building as an on-site career and technical education facility. State Route 331 (SR 331) is a mostly west–east, signed north–south, secondary highway in Knox County in the U.S. state of Tennessee. Route description SR 331 begins in Knoxville at an intersection with US 441/ SR 33 (Broadway). SR 331 goes north as Old Broadway to enter Fountain City, where it has an interchange with I-640/ US 25W (Exit 6) before having a partial interchange with US 441/SR 33.
