TSV 1861 Giants Nördlingen is a basketball club based in Nördlingen, Germany. The club currently plays in the ProB, the German third highest league. History The club was founded as ''TSV Nördlingen'' in 1953. In the 1972/73 season TSV 1861 Nördlingen competed for first time in the southern group of the Basketball Bundesliga. After finishing bottom of the table (5/23 record) the club was relegated.In the 2007/08 season, under the coach Andreas Wagner, Nördlingen managed to win the championship to the Bundesliga ProA and earned promotion to the Basketball Bundesliga. The ProB is the German basketball league system, third-tier level Sports league, league of professional club basketball in Germany. The league comprises 24 teams, separated into a Northern and a Southern Division. Officially, the ProB is part of the ''2. Basketball Bundesliga'', which consists of the two hierarchical leagues ''ProA'' and ''ProB''. Before the 2007–08 season, the ''2. Basketball Bundesliga'' was a basketball league with the same name, which consisted of two geographical divisions. At the end of the league stage, the winning team of the playoffs in each division, qualify for the ProA, and the teams positioned in 9th place and lower, fight in the play-downs, for the whereabouts in the league. The last two placed teams of both divisions are Promotion and relegation, relegated to the lower level fourth-tier league (1.Regionalliga). Nördlingen (; Swabian: ''Nearle'' or ''Nearleng'') is a town in the Donau-Ries district, in Swabia, Bavaria, Germany, with a population of approximately 20,674. It is located approximately east of Stuttgart, and northwest of Munich. It was built in an impact crater 15 million years old and in diameter—the Nördlinger Ries—of a meteorite which hit with an estimated speed of 70,000 km/h, and left the area riddled with an estimated 72,000 tons of micro-diamonds. Nördlingen was first mentioned in recorded history in 898. The town was the location of two battles during the Thirty Years' War, which took place between 1618 and 1648. The Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) (English language: ''Federal Basketball League''), for sponsorship reasons named easyCredit BBL, is the German basketball league system, highest level Sports league, league of professional club basketball in Germany. The league comprises 18 teams. A BBL season is split into a league stage and a playoff stage. Osvaldo Jeanty
Osvaldo Jeanty (born August 1, 1983) is a Canadian basketball coach and former professional basketball player. He is one of the all-time greats of the Carleton University Ravens men's basketball team and a member of the Ravens' Hall of Fame. Jeanty was named ''CIS male athlete of the year'' in 2006, and ''CIS basketball player of the year'' in 2006 and 2007. He also played on Canada's men's national team. Upon graduation, he spent six years playing professionally in Germany, Morocco, Romania and in the NBL Canada. He retired from professional basketball in November 2013.
