Giancarlo Venturini
Giancarlo Venturini was an Italian knitwear designer active in the 1950s-1970s. Venturini was born in Lucca, and studied engineering at the University of Pisa. After developing an interest in fashion, he returned to Lucca where his sister Anna had established a knitting mill, and joined forces with her to develop clothing designs. In 1957, he came up with the idea of the "Portofino" collection of ensembles where unusual sweaters were matched with coordinating slacks, which was recognised as one of "the most significant innovations in knit sportswear". In 1960, Venturini launched a new company called "Maria" which specialised in hand-knitting rather than machine, and created garments showing unusually coloured intarsia combined with embroidery. Castelvecchio Pascoli
Castelvecchio di Barga, officially Castelvecchio Pascoli, is a village in Tuscany in central Italy. Administratively, it is a ''frazione'' of the ''comune'' of Barga, in the province of Lucca, in the Serchio Valley, where poet Giovanni Pascoli bought the house "''Cardosi-Carrara''". Emilio Pucci
Don Emilio Pucci, Marchese di Barsento (; 20 November 1914 – 29 November 1992) was an Italian aristocrat, fashion designer and politician. He and his eponymous company are synonymous with geometric prints in a kaleidoscope of colors. Early life Pucci was born in Naples in 1914 to one of Florence's oldest noble families, and he lived and worked in the Pucci Palace in Florence for much of his life. He was a keen sportsman who swam, skied, fenced, played tennis and raced cars. At the age of 17, Pucci traveled to Lake Placid, New York, as part of the Italian team at the 1932 Winter Olympics, but he did not compete. After two years at the University of Milan, he studied agriculture at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, where he became a member of the Demosthenian Literary Society. Sportswear is an American fashion term originally used to describe separates, but which since the 1930s has come to be applied to day and evening fashions of varying degrees of formality that demonstrate a specific relaxed approach to their design, while remaining appropriate for a wide range of social occasions. The term is not necessarily synonymous with activewear, clothing designed specifically for participants in sporting pursuits. Although sports clothing was available from European haute couture houses and "sporty" garments were increasingly worn as everyday or informal wear, the early American sportswear designers were associated with ready-to-wear manufacturers. Lydia de Crescenzo was an Italian fashion designer known as Lydia de Roma (Lydia of Rome), specialising in sportswear. Biography de Crescenzo was born in Buenos Aires and grew up in Paris. Her father, who worked in the fashion industry as a buyer, came to Italy just before World War II and opened a shop for imported goods, with the assistance of his daughter as a designer.
