Ghulam Haider Hamidi
Ghulam Haider Hamidi (, also spelled Ghulam Haidar Hameedi and also known as Henry Hamidi; 1945 – 27 July 2011) was the Mayor of Kandahar in Afghanistan. his family fled to Pakistan, then to the United States. Hamidi graduated from Kabul University with a degree in finance. He spent a brief period in Pakistan and lived in the United States for almost nineteen years. He settled in the Washington, D.C. area, and worked as an accountant at Trans Am Travel, a wholesale travel agency in Alexandria, Virginia. In 2007, he returned to Afghanistan when the country was under the Karzai administration. In the late afternoon of 26 July 2011 a plot was discovered by the SFA Team 5 that there was an active plot to assassinate Hamidi by a turban bomb. The team thwarted the attack that day. Arghandab District
Arghandab (Pashto/) is a district in the central part of Kandahar Province, Afghanistan. It borders Panjwai and Khakrez districts to the west, Shah Wali Kot District to the north and east and Kandahar District to the east and south. The population, as of 2006, was 54,900. The district centre is Arghandab, located northwest of Kandahar. Kathy Gannon
Kathy M. Gannon (born 1954) is a Canadian journalist and news director of the Associated Press for Afghanistan and Pakistan. In 2014, Gannon was attacked and wounded while reporting from Afghanistan. Her German colleague, Anja Niedringhaus, was mortally wounded. Gannon received extensive coverage as she struggled to recover from her wounds and return to war reporting. Jan Mohammad Khan (died July 17, 2011) was a politician in Afghanistan, who served as Governor of Oruzgan Province from January 2002 to March 2006, member of the National Assembly, and a special adviser to President Hamid Karzai. He was an elder of the Popolzai Pashtun tribe in Oruzgan and a close ally of Hamid Karzai, who was from the Popalzai Durrani tribe. Early years and personal life Khan was illiterate.
