Ghanshyam Desai
Ghanshyam Occhavlal Desai was a Gujarati short story writer and editor from Gujarat, India. Life Ghanshyam Desai was born on 4 June 1934 in Devgadh Baria (now in Dahod district, Gujarat) where he completed primary and secondary education. He went to Bombay (now Mumbai) and studied B. A. in Gujarati in 1954. He worked as a teacher at Gurukul High School, Songadh for two years. In 1960, he completed M. A. in Gujarati. He worked as an assistant editor of ''Samarpan'' magazine (published by Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan) from 1962 to 1969 and later as an editor from 1970. When ''Samarpan'' merged with ''Navneet'' and became ''Navneet Samarpan'', he became its editor in 1980 and worked there until retirement. Desai married Urmi Desai, a Gujarati writer and linguist, in 1965. He died on 29 April 2010. Works Desai was a modernist experimental story writer. The Gujarat Sahitya Akademi () or Gujarat Sahitya Academy, established in 1981, is a government institution dedicated to the development of the languages spoken in Gujarat, India and their literature. Urmi Desai
Urmi Ghanshyam Desai (born 1938) is a Gujarati writer and linguist from Gujarat, India. She received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2017 for her critical work ''Gujarati Vyakaran Na Baso Varsh'' (published in 2014). Biography She was born on 5 April 1938 in Mumbai to her mother, Rambhabahen, and her father, Kameshwar Vyas. Her family originates from Chorvad. After matriculation in 1955, she completed her Bachelor of Arts (1961) and Master of Arts (1963) degrees on Gujarati and Sanskrit subjects. She received her PhD in 1967 under the supervision of Harivallabh Bhayani for her research work ''Gujarati Bhashana Angasadhak Pratyayo''. In 1969, she completed her Diploma in Linguistics. She married Ghanshyam Desai, a Gujarati short story writer, in 1965. From 1965 to 1972, she worked at Mumbai University as a research assistant in the Linguistics department.
