Ghada Amer
Ghada Amer (; May 22, 1963, in Cairo, Egypt) is a contemporary artist, much of her work deals with issues of gender and sexuality. Her most notable body of work involves highly layered embroidered paintings of women's bodies referencing pornographic imagery. Amer had previously emigrated from Egypt to France at the age of 11 and was educated in Paris and Nice. She is currently living and working in New York City. Early life and education Amer was born in Cairo, Egypt she has lived in France for twenty years, and doesn't consider herself singularly Egyptian, African or French. When she was growing up in Cairo, her mother, an agronomist, made business suits for herself, and local women would often gather to sew. Ghada Karmi (; born 1939) is a Palestinian-born academic, physician and author. She has written on Palestinian issues in newspapers and magazines, including ''The Guardian'', ''The Nation'' and '' Journal of Palestine Studies''. Early life and education Karmi was born in Jerusalem to a Muslim family. Her father, Hasan Sa'id Karmi was Palestinian while her mother was Syrian; she was the youngest child with an older brother and sister. In her 2002 autobiography, ''In Search of Fatima: A Palestinian Story'', she describes growing up in the Jerusalem neighbourhood of Katamon, with its mixture of Palestinian Christians and Muslims. Ghada Jamshir
Ghada Jamshir () is a Bahraini women's rights activist and an ardent campaigner for the reform of Sharia courts in Bahrain and the Arab States of the Persian Gulf. Jamshir heads the Women's Petition Committee lobbying for a law that would shift jurisdiction over family and women's affairs from Islamic Sharia court to civil courts. Jamshir has called the Al Khalifa government's reforms "artificial and marginal". In a statement in December 2006 she said, Jamshir has been outspoken in criticizing the Bahraini government for its role in the Bandargate scandal. Ghada Karam Owais, also spelled Ghada Oueiss, is a Lebanese journalist for Al Jazeera. She was born on November 6, 1977, and attended the Lebanese University, graduating in 1999. Ghada Jamal (born 1955) is an abstract artist born in Beirut, Lebanon. Jamal studied Fine Arts at the Lebanese American University (LAU), where she graduated in 1984.
