Joop Geurts
Joop Geurts (February 20, 1923 – February 26, 2009) was a Dutch professional baseball player for Schoten Haarlem of the Hoofdklasse Honkbal or Major League Baseball in Dutch. He was also a member of the Netherlands national baseball team. Career Geurts made his debut in the Dutch national team in 1938 as a catcher, at only 15 years of age. In 1957 he was named Most Valuable Player of the Main Class. Between 1956 and 1960 he captured the European title four times with the Dutch team. Geurts appeared in 36 games over 23 years for the national team. In 1956 he was part of the selection that came out for the first time against the United States team and was also named a team captain. Geurts was also known by the so-called "ball incident" of 1948 with American ambassador Baruch. The ambassador was invited to throw the first ball at the start of the main class baseball season. Yvonne de Ligne (née ''Geurts'', 18 May 1902 – 1952) was a Belgian figure skater. She competed in the ladies' singles event at all major competitions from 1929 to 1936, including Winter Olympics, world and European championships. Her best achievements were sixth place at the 1929 and 1932 world championships and 1932 Olympics, and fifth place at the 1933 European Championships. She was born Yvonne Geurts and changed her last name after marrying speed skater Charles de Ligne. During World War II she fell in love with Dutch figure skater Jacob Hartog, who then lived in Antwerp. Loes Geurts (; born 12 January 1986) is a Dutch former footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Since making her international debut in 2005, Geurts has collected over 100 caps for the Netherlands national team. She kept goal for the Netherlands at the 2009 and 2013 editions of the UEFA Women's Championship. Club career Geurts' career started at the youth team of club RES in Bolsward. She then played for SC Heerenveen for one season, before returning to RES.
