Gervais, Count Of Rethel
Gervais, Count of Rethel (fl. 11th century) was a French archbishop and nobleman. He was the son of Count Hugh I and his wife Melisende of Crécy. He succeeded his father as Count of Rethel. Biography Gervais served as an archdeacon of Rheims before being nominated as Archbishop of Rheims by the King's supporters against Raoul the Green in 1106. The next year Paschall II declared him unfit, quashed his election and Gervais resigned as archbishop in 1109, returning to his former role as archdeacon. Upon the death of his elder brother, Manasser, in 1115, Gervais resigned from the clergy and married Elisabeth, daughter of Godfrey I, Count of Namur and in 1118 he succeeded his father as Count of Rethel. Gervais died in 1124 and his widow Elizabeth remarried to Roger Clarembauld, Lord of Rosoi in Thierache who gave the hand of his step-daughter to Robert Marmion, Baron of Tamworth. Sir Eustace Gervais Tennyson d'Eyncourt, 2nd Baronet FRSA (19 January 1902 – 21 November 1971). Early life Tennyson d'Eyncourt was the son of Sir Eustace Tennyson d'Eyncourt, 1st Baronet, and of his wife Janet (died 1909), the elder daughter of Mathew Finlay, of Langside, Glasgow, and the widow of John Burns. He was educated at Charterhouse School. Career In 1951 he succeeded his father in the baronetcy. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts in 1956 and was Prime Warden of the Worshipful Company of Fishmongers, 1960–1961, later President of the Shellfish Association of Great Britain, 1971. John Lewis Gervais
John Lewis Gervais (1741–1798) was an American planter and statesman from South Carolina. He served as a delegate to the Continental Congress in 1782 and 1783. Life and career John was born in Hanover, Germany where his parents were French Huguenot refugees in 1741. He emigrated to South Carolina, arriving in Charleston in 1764. He started in the mercantile business, but soon expanded his interests to include a plantation. Gervais first served in the revolutionary Provincial Congress in 1775. He was a member of the state's ''Committee of Safety'' from 1775 to 1781. Under the new state government, he was elected to South Carolina's Senate in 1781 and 1782. The legislature sent him as a delegate to the Continental Congress in Philadelphia in 1782 and 1783. Joseph Gervais (October 21, 1777 – July 14, 1861) was a French-Canadian, later American, pioneer settler and trapper in the Pacific Northwest. He is the namesake for the town of Gervais, Oregon. Jean-Loup Gervais (born 10 September 1936 in Paris) is a French theoretical physicist. Gervais studied physics and mathematics in Paris, where he graduated in 1961 and got his Ph.D. in 1965 as a student of Claude Bouchiat and Philippe Meyer in Orsay. From 1966 to 1968 he was a post-doctoral researcher at New York University. Already since 1960 he was employed at the CNRS, from 1970 on as Maître de conférences. During 1973–1985 he was Maître de conférences at École polytechnique. From 1979 to 1983 and from 1995 to 1998 he was director of the Laboratory of Theoretical Physics of the École Normale Supérieure. Gaétan Gervais, (August 10, 1944 – October 20, 2018) was a Canadian author, historian and university professor, most noted as a prominent figure in Franco-Ontarian culture. With a group of university students at Laurentian University, he designed the Franco-Ontarian flag, and was a founding member of the Franco-Ontarian Institute. Drago Gervais (April 18, 1904 – July 3, 1957) was a Croatian Istrian poet and playwright, and one of the most prominent poets writing in the Chakavian dialect of Croatian. Drago Gervais was born in 1904 in Opatija. His father Artur, a descendant of a French soldier in Napoleon's army, was a music teacher born in Severin na Kupi in the Gorski Kotar region of Croatia, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His mother Klementina was from Opatija. In 1918 during the Italian annexation of Istria, he moved with his family to Bakar. In 1922 he graduated from high school in Sušak and attended Zagreb Law School. Charles-Hubert Gervais (19 February 1671 – 14 January 1744) was a French composer of the Baroque era. The son of a valet to King Louis XIV's brother, Monsieur, Gervais was born at the Palais Royal in Paris and probably educated by Monsieur's musical intendants, Jean Granouillet de Sablières and Charles Lalouette. He worked as a musician for the Duc de Chartres, the future regent of France. In 1701, he married Françoise du Vivier (she died in 1723). In 1721 he was named ''sous-maître de musique'' at the Chapelle royale along with André Campra, Nicolas Bernier and Michel Richard Delalande (who had previously held the post alone). Cédric DePasquale (, born 7 June 1979), better known by his stage name Cedric Gervais (), is a French DJ, record producer and actor residing in Miami Beach, Florida. Bruno Gervais (born October 3, 1984) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey defenceman. He played with the New York Islanders, Tampa Bay Lightning and the Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League (NHL). Playing career As a youth, Gervais played in the 1997 Quebec International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament with the Richelieu Laser minor ice hockey team. Gervais was selected in the sixth round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, 182nd overall, by the New York Islanders. Gervais was named captain of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan of the QMJHL as an 18-year-old even though there were many veteran players. In his 19-year-old season he hurt his knee at the December tryout camp for team Canada's under 20 team. He missed the rest of the season.
