Gertse County (), Gêrzê County , United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency or Gaize County ( zh, s=改则县) is a county located in Ngari Prefecture in the northwest of the Tibet Autonomous Region, China, bordering Xinjiang to the north. Name Gêrzê is the Tibetan word for a special type of local-style dwelling built on the peak of a mountain. History The area was originally inhabited by nomadic tribes. In the aftermath of the annexation of Tibet by the People's Republic of China in the early 1950s, People's Liberation Army troops were stationed in Gêrzê. Yutian County ( zh, s=于田县), also transliterated from Uyghur as Keriya County (; zh, s=克里雅县), is a county in Hotan Prefecture, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, China. It is based at the Keriya Town, and is separate from Hotan County, which is another county in the same prefecture. The Yutian County has an area of . According to the 2002 census, it has a population of 220,000. The Tibetan antelope or chiru (''Pantholops hodgsonii'') (, pronounced ; ) is a medium-sized bovid native to the northeastern Tibetan plateau. Most of the population live within the Chinese border, while some scatter across India and Bhutan in the high altitude plains, hill plateau and montane valley. Fewer than 150,000 mature individuals are left in the wild, but the population is currently thought to be increasing. In the 1980s and the 1990s, they had become endangered due to massive illegal poaching. They are hunted for their extremely soft, light and warm underfur which is usually obtained after death.
