Gerry Collins (broadcaster)
Gerry Collins is a Brisbane-based sports commentator and writer for ABC Radio Grandstand. He was born in the Hunter Region of New South Wales, Australia and attended St Brigid's Primary School at Raymond Terrace and Marist Brothers' College in Hamilton before gaining a teaching qualification at Newcastle Teachers' College. His teaching career ultimately took him to Dubbo in western New South Wales. He joined the Dubbo Ducks amateur swimming team in 1972 and called rugby league games on a part-time basis at 2DU in Dubbo. Ultimately, he left his teaching career to work at the Daily Liberal, rising to sports editor and then editor. In 1984, he became a sports broadcaster with the ABC, and his major Games swimming coverage began in 1986 with that year's Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh. Gerard Collins (12 March 1955 – 20 May 2024) was a Scottish football player and coach. A defender and midfielder, he played for Stranraer, Albion Rovers, Ayr United, Hamilton Academical, and Partick Thistle. Playing career Collins played for Stranraer, Maryhill, St Roch's, Albion Rovers, Ayr United, Hamilton Academical and Partick Thistle. At Hamilton, Collins began as a midfielder but converted to a defender after one season. He won the Division 1 title with Hamilton in 1986 and 1988, serving as club captain. He was a part-time player, also working as a taxi driver. Coaching career Collins retired from playing to become assistant manager of Partick Thistle. James Gerard Collins (born 16 October 1938) is an Irish former Fianna Fáil politician who served as Minister for Foreign Affairs from March 1982 to December 1982 and 1989 to 1992, Minister for Justice from 1977 to 1981 and 1987 to 1989, Minister for Posts and Telegraphs from 1970 to 1973, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Industry and Commerce and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for the Gaeltacht from 1969 to 1970. He was a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) for the Munster constituency from 1994 to 2004. He served as a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Limerick West constituency from 1967 to 1997. Gerard Collins (born 1957) is a Canadian painter. Early life and education Collins was born in Saint John, New Brunswick. He studied initially at St. Martin’s School of Art in London, England, ultimately completing a BFA degree at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.
