Gerrit Den Braber
Gerrit den Braber (23 March 1929 – 3 May 1997) was born in Rotterdam and was a Dutch songwriter and lyricist. Braber took music lessons in Rotterdam and Hilversum. He then went into Hospital Radio and joined the Dutch radio and television company Omroepvereniging VARA, VARA in 1955. He wrote the lyrics for three Eurovision Song Contest songs Fernando en Filippo, Ring-dinge-ding and I See a Star, he has also worked with former contestants Willeke Alberti, Corry Brokken, Anneke Grönloh, Lenny Kuhr and Conny Vandenbos as well as providing Dutch commentary for the 1985 Eurovision Song Contest. He was married to the mother of his children but they divorced and he went to live with Dutch artist Thérèse Steinmetz. He had three children and five grandchildren with his ex-wife. He died from a stroke in 1997. 1985 Eurovision Song Contest
The Eurovision Song Contest 1985 was the 30th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, held on 4 May 1985 in the in Gothenburg, Sweden. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster (SVT), it was presented by Lill Lindfors. The contest was held in following the country's victory at the with the song "Diggi-Loo Diggi-Ley" by Herreys. Nineteen countries participated in the contest; and returned after a one-year absence, while the and , which had participated in the previous year's event, declined to enter due to separate memorial events in those countries coinciding with the date of the contest. Rob De Nijs
Rob de Nijs (26 December 1942 – 16 March 2025) was a Dutch singer and actor. Life and career De Nijs, supported by The Lords, won a talent contest in 1962 and released the first single, " Ritme van de Regen" the same year, which is a great success. In 1965, The Lords signed with another label, prompting De Nijs to part ways with them and embark on a joint circus tour with Johnny Lion. By 1967, De Nijs was a free agent; he performed at small venues and worked as a bartender for a living. His attempts to keep up with the ''zeitgeist'', including "Bye Bye Mrs. Turple", failed; he only made the headlines by marrying his girlfriend Elly. Elisabeth Dorathea "Liesbeth" List (born Driessen; December 12, 1941 – March 25, 2020) was a Dutch singer. She became popular during the 1960s and frequently collaborated with Ramses Shaffy. She also sang Jacques Brel's chansons in Dutch translation. Biography Early life List was born in Bandoeng, Dutch East Indies (present-day Indonesia), as Elisabeth "Elly" Dorathea Driessen. Her parents were separated in 1942 when during the Japanese occupation of the Dutch East Indies, her father was forced to work in coal mines. Elly and her mother were sent to one of the many camps set up exclusively to imprison Dutch occupants of Indonesia; such camps were known under the Dutch nickname "jappenkamp" (Jap-Camp). John van Leeuwarden (4 July 1941 – 31 January 2019), who recorded under the name Johnny Lion, was a Dutch singer, journalist and actor. His best known song as a solo artist was his hit single "Sophietje". He also recorded with The Jumping Jewels and had a few hit songs including "Wheels"", "Africa" and " Irish Washerwoman". Willy Alberti
Carel Verbrugge (14 October 1926 – 18 February 1985), known as Willy Alberti, was a Dutch singer, who sang in Dutch and Italian. He was also an actor and a radio and TV personality. Alberti was born in Amsterdam as the third of eight children to Jacobus Wilhelm Verbrugge and Sophia Jacoba van Musscher. He sang with family members at a very young age. He began recording professionally in the early 1940s. In 1944 he married Ria Kuiper, and his daughter Willeke Alberti, later to become a successful Dutch vocalist herself, was born in 1945. After the war Alberti established himself in the Netherlands with Italian songs; he became increasingly popular in the 1950s, when he had a string of hits beginning with ''Nel blu, dipinto di blu (song), Nel blu dipinto di blu'' in 1958.
