German Wine Regions
German wine regions are classified according to the quality category of the wine grown therein: '' Tafelwein, Landwein, Qualitätswein bestimmter Anbaugebiete'' (QbA) and '' Prädikatswein''. The wine regions allowed to produce QbA and Prädikatswein are further subdivided into four categories according to size: ''Anbaugebiet'' (a major wine region), ''Bereich'' (a district within the wine region), ''Großlage'' (a collection of vineyards within a district) and ''Einzellage'' (a single vineyard).J. Rheingau (wine Region)
Rheingau () is one of 13 designated German wine regions (''Weinbaugebiete'') producing quality wines (''QbA'' and ''Prädikatswein''). It was named after the traditional region of Rheingau (meaning "Rhine district"), the wine region is situated in the state of Hesse, where it constitutes part of the Rheingau-Taunus-Kreis administrative district. Although, making up only 3 percent of the total German vineyard area, Rheingau has been the source of many historically important innovations in German wine making, and contains many wine producers of international reputation, such as Schloss Johannisberg. Stargarder Land (wine Region)
Stargarder Land is a small region for country wine in northeastern Germany, which was defined in an amendment to the German wine law on 4 March 2004. Piesporter
Piesporter is a wine made in and around the village of Piesport on the north bank of the Mosel wine region of Germany. A white, light body wine that ranges from dry to off-dry, it can be made from Riesling, Müller-Thurgau, or Elbling grapes. The wine often has a ''Qualitätswein bestimmter Anbaugebiete (QbA)'' classification, meaning that it was produced in accordance with regional appellation laws and has been tested for compliance by an official committee. In some cases a Piesporter may be chaptalized with sugar added to the juice before fermentation to increase the alcohol level. Chaptalization is more common in the “cheap” export Piesporters that are made from the Müller-Thurgau and Elbling varieties. Siebengebirge (Wine District)
The Siebengebirge wine growing district ("Bereich") is part of the Mittelrhein (wine region), Mittelrhein wine growing region and is made up entirely of the Petersberg site ("Großlage"). The district is named for the Siebengebirge mountain range, located within the municipal boundaries of Bad Honnef and Königswinter. The acreage under cultivation once exceeded 500 hectares, of which today only about 20 hectares remain. Vineyards The site comprises nine vineyards, located in the towns of Niederdollendorf and Oberdollendorf (part of the city of Königswinter), Königswinter proper, Rhöndorf (part of the city of Bad Honnef) and Beuel (part of the city of Bonn).
