German Playing Card Museum
The German Playing Card Museum () in Leinfelden-Echterdingen is a branch of the Württemberg State Museum and houses one of the largest public playing cards collections in Europe. It is open to all ludologists and those with private interests. Playing cards are systematically collected, archived and researched. The collection includes around 15,000 decks with over 500,000 individual cards, a games library with an archive, a graphics collection, as well as arts and crafts objects, card presses, glasses, gaming tables, etc. One rarity is its Asian-Indian collection. It is considered the most comprehensive museum of its type in the world. The museum is a member of the International Playing Card Society. The Soviet Military Administration in Germany (; ''Sovyetskaya Voyennaya Administratsiya v Germanii'', SVAG; , SMAD) was the Soviet military government, headquartered in Berlin- Karlshorst, that directly ruled the Soviet occupation zone in Germany from the German surrender in May 1945 until after the establishment of the German Democratic Republic (GDR) in October 1949. According to the Potsdam Agreement in 1945, the SMAD was assigned the eastern portion of present-day Germany, consisting mostly of central Prussia. Esslingen (district)
Esslingen is a (district) in the centre of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Neighboring districts are (from north clockwise) Rems-Murr, Göppingen (district), Göppingen, Reutlingen (district), Reutlingen, Böblingen (district), Böblingen and the district-free city Stuttgart. Until 15 October 1964, the district's name was officially written as Landkreis Eßlingen. Bielefelder Spielkarten
Bielefelder Spielkarten was a mid-20th century, German manufacturer of playing cards based in Bielefeld, Germany. History The firm was founded in Bielefeld 1950 as a subsidiary of E. Gundlach, its first games bearing the parent company's name. In 1972 the company was sold, along with its German Playing Card Museum, playing card collection, to ASS Altenburger, ASS and, initially, continued to produce the same range. In 1981, ASS took over the entire range and Bielefelder then only produced playing cards with advertising. In 1996, ASS went bankrupt and that also saw the demise of Bielefelder Spielkarten. Leinfelden-Echterdingen (; Swabian: ''Laefälda-Ächdordeng'') is a town in the district of Esslingen, in Baden-Württemberg, Germany. ASS Altenburger is since 2003 the trademark of the German playing card manufacturer Spielkartenfabrik Altenburg, based in the town of Altenburg. The firm is owned by Cartamundi, of Turnhout, Belgium.
