German Association Of Judges
The German Association of Judges (, DRB) is the largest professional organization of judges and public prosecutors in Germany. It was founded in 1909. It is a member organization of the International Association of Judges. Every other year, the DRB honors a judge, public prosecutor or other lawyer with a Human Rights Award for outstanding merits on the defence of human rights. Recent laureates were Syrian lawyer Anwar al-Bunni, Iranian attorney Nasser Zarafshan in 2007 and the Chinese lawyer Zheng Enchong Zheng Enchong (born 2 September 1950) is a Shanghai-based '' Weiquan'' (rights defending) lawyer. The International Association of Judges (IAJ) is a professional, non-political, international organization of national associations of judges. It was founded in Salzburg in 1953 and has its headquarters in Rome. The IAJ promotes the Rule of Law and the Independence of the Judiciary. Its members consist of national associations or representative groups from approximately 90 countries. Anwar al-Bunni (, born 1959) is a Syrian human rights lawyer who has defended clients such as Riad al-Turk, Riad Seif, the owner of ''The Lamplighter'', (an independent newspaper shut down by the Syrian government), Kurdish protesters, and "dozens of others." Nasser Zarafshan
Nasser Zarafshan (; born 1946) is an Iranian writer, translator, and attorney. He is known for having been arrested while acting as the legal envoy of two of the families of dissident Iranian writers who were assassinated in November 1998 in what came to be known in Iran as the " Chain Murders" or "serial murders" case. The arrest was widely condemned by human rights groups. It is reported that Zarafshan had been tremendously critical of the shortcomings in the official examination into these killings. In 2002 he was sentenced to five years imprisonment and was released from prison in March 2007. Zheng Enchong
Zheng Enchong (born 2 September 1950) is a Shanghai-based '' Weiquan'' (rights defending) lawyer. Zheng was sentenced in 2003 to three years in prison for his advocacy on behalf of citizens who had been forcibly evicted from their homes. The charge stemmed from two faxes Zheng was alleged to have sent to the New York-based organisation Human Rights in China concerning workers' protests. Upon his release from prison, he remained under house arrest. His lawyer Guo Guoting was allegedly forbidden to see him. Guo Guoting now lives in Canada. Zheng Enchong had advised more than 500 families displaced by Shanghai's urban redevelopment projects on their rights to fair compensation.
